thoughts/ suggestions for a "what if" 1/72 Hermann Marwede

Recommended Posts

Hi all, being just a 'casual' moddeller and a bit of a less than frequent visitor to the forum I am just after some thoughts/advicee.

I am slowly but surely working through the 1/72 Hermann Marwede and also the Airfix Severn lifeboat, when I had the interesting thought run through my head - what if the RNLI had the similar budget to their German counterparts? What if they got their hands on a 43ft rescue cruiser? So, already my mind is down the model shop ordering another revell kit (and a shed load of orange paint! That's a sizeable superstructure!)

Then my thoughts turned to the heli-deck - something really needs to be sitting there, especially if it's an 'unrestricted budget/red tape" situation. So people, what thoughts?

Obviously initial thoughts of a Sea King (or perhaps a Merlin in bright spanking RAF rescue yellow) have been dismissed as I would like to keep some form of reality, and the deck/ vessel itself wouldn't be able to support such an airframe (physically or logistically) and a heli-med style Eurocoptor just seems a bit............. Weedy!

I'm thinking Lynx (if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it etc, butwas wondering if aa) there are any other possibilities? And B) should I go with a generic RAF colour scheme? A Generic grey/red Navy scheme? (more logical maybe? Ormassive what if - (as if the main idea isn't hare-brained enough) - the RNLI operated their own airframes? Any ideas on a colour scheme? Full on orange seems a bit much, and following hull colours (red, blue, orange) just seems a bit cheesy

Any thoughts suggestions gratefully appreciated :-) I may post this in aircraft forum too for any heli fanatics thoughts

Interesting thought! Again sadly I imagine a Black Hawk would be too large (although now my crazy mind is thinking of a supervillan style floating hideout, complete with some kind of Rapier missiles, Anti-ship conversion Apache on the pad etc) - I've always had more imagination than sense (or money)

Leased MBB 117 or similar.

Not too big, And used for air ambulance.

Scratchbuild a winch on the side.

I think it would need a sliding door?

I think Revell do one in 1/72nd

I'm back after many years and all projects were shelved due to children. So after finally remembering my password I'm checking out any replies. I'm liking the idea of the puma! Almost forgot they existed! Awesome bird and loving the idea of the RNLI orange and blue! Something bright would be an interesting change, and also times have changed, so the SAR role isn't operated by the forces anymore :-(
