ATPER
hi all. I am thinking of trying to build civil airliners in 1/72. has anyone of you built a such? what about the welsh kits ? (A320, B737(-7/8), J41,....) are they good? or which one also produces them? thanks a lot, ATPer btw, are there no BAe ATPs in a scale between 1/70 and 1/85 around? Glen
Aircraft in Miniature did a 72 ATP a few years ago in resin under the Rugrat brand I think. I don't think it's still available but Neil Gaunt is gradually bringing back his kits so it may reappear. Keep an eye on www.aim72.co.uk for any news and details of his other 72 airliner kits, Cheers Glen Edited July 18, 2013 by Glen
Romeo Alpha Yankee
I have a few in the stash Welsh 737-BBJ / E-7A Wedgetail (737-700) and P-8 (737-800) - Vacform and Resin AIM B737-300 - Vacform and resin KMC B727-200 - Injected Heller B707-320 - Injected Contrails CV340 - Vacform ??? BAC-111 - Vacform ??? HS-748 - Vacform The Welsh kits are nicely moulded but the resin wings in all my kits have slight warping which I am yet to successfully fully straighten out. I have started work on the Wedgetail and it is progressing smoothly so far..
Vesa Jussila
Heller made a DC-6 in 1/72 and there is Heller/Airfix Super Constellation as well. Constellation will need lot of work to correct, at least engines, cabin windows and shape of nose.
modelldoc
Some hard working kits are from MACH2: the Caravelle, DC-4, Viscount 700 and new the Convair 240 modelldoc
kev67
Welsh models are good but having built a few of their 1/72 kits the main problem is that you have vacform fuselage and resin wings, and the only way of gluing these 2 togethor is using 2 part epoxy glue which does not bond them togethor very well and can crack where they are joined and as stated the resin wings can have warpage, which can be dealt with using hot water, but after time warps again. Mach 2 or machpooh to some can be very frustrating to build and not very accurate.
Ivor Ramsden
As well as the ATP and 737, Aircraft in Miniature did the Avro 748, Jetstream and Boeing 747.

tomprobert
As well as the ATP and 737, Aircraft in Miniature did the Avro 748, Jetstream and Boeing 747. Aircraft in Miniature also do a DC-7C, DC-8, DC-9, DC-10, B767, 747-100/200/300/400, and did do 737-300/400s too. I think a Comet 4 was available some time ago, and rumour has it this will be reissued at some point in the not-too-distant future.

The DC-7 and DC-9 aren't in the current catalogue, but they may be re-issued in the future, along with the 737s. Let's not forget the Contrails Britannia and the Academy Boeing 377. There's also the Maquette Boeing 307 and Vimy Commercial for the dedicated masochists among us.
modelldoc
The three Maquette kit, Boeing 307, Vimy Commercial and Vickers Viking like pure gold, because the are out of production and never come back. In the 90th, there was a company with an Boeing 727, forget the name, but the kit is lost. modelldoc Edited July 19, 2013 by modelldoc

Jessica
Something I heard about A conversion for the Hasegawa Orion to become an Electra I have that conversion. It comes from Contrails and doesn't appear to be in the current catalogue, although there are DC-7B and -7C conversions advertised right now. It isn't for the faint of heart, as it involves quite a bit of slicing and dicing to be done to the donor kit. Once it's complete it's a really nice conversion, for a subject otherwise not available. There are also the Amonster kits of the IL-18 and AN-10 if you like your models rough. The AN-22 can be called an airliner at a stretch, as may the Roden AN-12 and -74. The AN-24/26 family may be had from AModel. I'm also slightly surprised that nobody has yet mentioned the Heller 707.
Admiral Puff
I'm equally surprised that no-one has mentioned the Airfix F.27 - or the Esci one, for that matter (even allowing that it hasn't been available for yonks, and isn't all that accurate anyway). GreenDragon
Took me years to get hold of the Esci F-27 then when I got it realized it was just so wrong! AIM/Transport wings are going to do the 757 and A330-200 plus RAF Voyager and RAAF conversion sets. Anyone mention the Aurora/Monogram DC-9? Their 737 was based on early GA drawings of the -100 but I hear it's very dodgy! Matchbox Do28 Skyservant and HS125-600, Airfix Short Skyvan.
