Captain Jimmy Stewart 1/9th scale bust by Legends and Lore

Recommended Posts

Finished this the other day for a friend who asked me to paint it for him.

Jimmy Stewart served for 27 years in the USAAf/USAF. During WWII as Operations Officer for the 445th Bombardment Group followed by the 453rd Bombardment Group he flew 20 official missions in B-24s from RAF Tibenham and RAF Old Buckenham. He also later flew many uncredited missions and was awarded the DFC, Croix de Guerre and Air medal with 3 Oak Clusters. Later in his career he also flew a B-52 Arc Light mission over Vietnam.

Being colour blind the browns and greens of modern uniforms (modern = post Crimean War) are a nightmare for me so I generally rely on painting by numbers and help from my wife. Fortunately my friend provided me with a colour photo of Jimmy Stewarts actual leather jacket which seems to have been a much lighter shade than normal. I hope he likes it!

The face is painted using oils and the uniform with acrylics (Vallejo and Tamiya). The jacket had a coat of Army Painter -Quickshade (DarkTone) followed by a dry brushing with Revell enamel 382.
