JasonC
Hi all, This is my first completed tank kit, so it's been a bit of a learning experience vis a vis painting and weathering armour. Good fun though, and I expect it won't be my last! It's a fairly simple conversion to the Hobby Boss KV-2, and represents the single experimental KV-2 that was modified to take a 107mm gun. The mantlet was scratchbuilt, and the barrel is brass tube. It's not totally accurate, since I realised late in the build that this particular vehicle probably shouldn't have the inspection hole on top of the domed engine cover. Still, good enough for government work. cheers, Jason Edited June 24, 2013 by JasonC

JasonC
I made a base for this (another first!), so I took the opportunity to take some new pictures as well. Edited August 27, 2013 by JasonC
colin
Very nice, also like the fact that you haven't splattered it with a load of mud so you can still see the detail
Jaykay
Nice tank, bet Ze germans were glad that didn't make it into production, jk
keefr22
That's very nice - I really like your paint & weathering, & the base is really good too! How did you do the flowers?
drookit
Very nice....Mind you this particular tank has given me nightmares on a number of occations when I have come up against it in WOT.

Thanks, I wish I could say that I made the flowers from spider webs and dormouse eyelashes, but I have to admit that they came in a blister pack. I picked them up at a show; they're part of the 'Army Painter' range. Dead simple to use, just peel a clump off the backing sheet and attach with white glue. Very nice....Mind you this particular tank has given me nightmares on a number of occations when I have come up against it in WOT. I know what you mean. Mind you, I also had one, so it went both ways! Very nice, also like the fact that you haven't splattered it with a load of mud so you can still see the detail Thanks. I think I'd struggle to put on the amount of mud you see sometimes, even if I tried! Nice tank, bet Ze germans were glad that didn't make it into production, jk Indeed. I think the factory was in Leningrad, so it was put on hold when the Germans arrived. This is a really nice piece of work, excellent job! muchly. Dazzio
Very nice....Mind you this particular tank has given me nightmares on a number of occations when I have come up against it in WOT. I've never had that much trouble with these things in WOT. Just aimed for the turret and you *should* hit it . then again more oftern than not I'm in a medium so I can run away if needed now the American heavies... > Love the model tho, and the base also. Very cool Kind Regards Dazz

Cheers, glad I don't have to find a dormouse - spider webs would be no problem though!! I shall look for some of those (the Army Painter flowers, not spiders webs!), they look very effective! Sgt.Squarehead
Very nice build.....I'm really impressed with your paint-chipping, it's something I still struggle with. I'd imagine that gun would put the already underpowered traverse mechanism of the KV-2 under massive strain, and driving it through city streets might be tricky! JasonC
Very nice build.....I'm really impressed with your paint-chipping, it's something I still struggle with. Thanks muchly. The chipping was done with a scrap of sponge and dilute Games Workshop paints with a bit of retarder added. That seemed to give enough working time to stop it drying too fast. I'd imagine that gun would put the already underpowered traverse mechanism of the KV-2 under massive strain, and driving it through city streets might be tricky! Probably another reason it never got past the prototype stage. But at least the crew wouldn't have to rig up a clothesline! J.

Cheers J.....I've tried that technique but I didn't seem to get enough contrast with the basecoat (I think my sponge may have been insufficiently coarse). I'll have to give it another shot as it clearly works a treat.
