heloman1
I was given this loco a couple of years back but having looked at some of the modern stuff available it seems rather dated. Forty to sixty quid for a new loco also looked a bit steep, so Ithought I'd update this one. A freind loaned me Ian Allan Loco Illustrated magazine, a whole issue devoted to the 0-6-0 Pannier tanks. I've removed almost all of the moulded in detail and have started to replace this, lifting eyes, step iron, handrails etc. I need to purchase some handrail posts but the remainder can come from bent up wire etc. I'm using anglers trace wire stiff but works well, the wire lying next to the loco is the steam heating pipe which runs along the side of the running board, the vacumm pipe runs along the other side. Lots to do yet. This wil be a slow project as I'm busy elsewhwere on the BM site. Colin
Howard of Effingham
would you like some suitable generic decals to help finish this one off or do you already have them? good idea to update old loco.

heloman1
Hi Rich, this is going to be a backburner job, as I have the Wessex and Merlin build threads going on elsewhere on BM plus the Helicopter GB. I'll be building a layout too. Colin
davidelvy
Did Hornby re-use this loco? The reason I ask is because I did something similar with a Hornby Pannier Tank in the early 80s. The model was basically a shell with rails etc moilded on. I added wire rails, brakes, sandboxes and a curved section for the top of the boiler and it looked miles better. I've done nothing with choo-choos for years so thanks for taking me down memory lane. I shall watch with interest.
heloman1
Hi David. Hornby could well have taken on theTriang moulds but as I've only in th epast five years come back to model railways I can't answer your question. From the Trains Illustrated magazine there are too many types of 0-6-0 to calculate. Subtle differences between region and in year, additions and modifications. The condensation conversion looks particularly interesting. Colin
Pete610
Hi David. The condensation conversion looks particularly interesting. Colin Hornby did produce this - pretty much unchanged as no 8751 of the 57xx class - This was replaced in the mid 80s - by a rather better detailed open-cabbed version of the older 2721 class. This has separate handrails, improved livery, detailed cab backhead and a newer chassis thatr allowed running on finescale track and points. Bit of a nerd on pannier tanks from the Dean designed, Wolverhampton (not Swindon) built jobs, through to Hawksworths final designs in the 1940s, so if you need to know owt - let me know...
