wkennerley
Nice entry, my brother (RKennerley) built one a few years back, I am sure he posted it on BM - I seem to recall it had a few issues but went together OK in the end Wayne Here is a post of the finished model http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234910292-be-6-flying-boat/ Edited April 26, 2013 by wkennerley
CarLos
You are really brave! Here's Carmel Attard model to inspire you: http://www.modelingmadness.com/review/korean/ussr/attardbe6.htm I have taken my kit out of the box several times to take a good look at it. And I always end putting it there again! Carlos
BritJet
The company was VEB Plasticart from East Germany ....And the VEB part is Volkseigner Betrieb which is German for Publicly Owned Operation - which everything was in East Germany! So it's like Ltd or PLC I've also got one of these kits and haven't looked at it for quite a while! Trumpeter are releasing a Be-6 at some point so this one may still be worthwhile building...... sean
Thanks guys, didn't know about the exhausts being in the wrong spot. Lovely models (and links), and will do me lovely for references. It only arrived Wednesday, and I thought what the hell, I'll build it now,( with fingers crossed). Sean

sean
Cheers, Cliff. Thanks Pin, it seems the kit is pretty true to those drawings. No detail at all inside of the fuselage, not even an attempt at a cockpit. Not that much could be seen anyway. Here are the component parts: There is not that many for a plane this size,(perfect for me then.) Made a start last night, and 90 mins or so later, most of the parts were joined. Only my second time building a kit from outside a "mainstream" kit , and I'm pleasantly surprised how well everything fits. I will address the issue of the exhausts later today, and apply a coat of paint to the inside of the fuselage. Cheers Sean
sean
Another bit done in between other builds. Exhausts removed, inside the fuselage given a quick lick of paint and then the two halves joined together. The fit is pretty good-there are small tabs to help-, just a bit of a seam to smooth out along the top. Now I realise the size of the thing..............and where will it go once it's finished!! Anyone got a spare 2" paint brush? Cheers Sean
Doug Rogers
Yikes! What scale is that then, 1/48? It's a Monster!
sean
Yikes! What scale is that then, 1/48? It's a Monster! Doug it's 1/72, so its only a little one! . Well, tailplanes and floats are on, the engines are on the right way and the seam on the spine has been flattened. A bit of a clean up required around the engines, exhausts glued and she'll be ready for a 1st coat of paint. So far, so good, (Looking at the shape of it, I know where George Lucas got is idea for the clone transports from) Cheers Sean Edited April 30, 2013 by sean
sean
Quick update: Underside finished painted-Humbrol 145x 2 coats Topside first coat- Humbrol 155 First time I've ever masked a canopy, just hoping the lines are straight. A hell of a model to paint with a brush , but quite happy with the results so far. Sean
CliffB
That paint is looking really good Sean - wish I could paint like that with a brush (no chance!). Cliff
EricP
I agree with Cliff ... that looks better than my airbrushed efforts!
sean
Thanks guys, I've bought a W&N One Stroke 1/4 brush (blue) just before starting this build, and the difference over the other brushes is amazing. I'd recommend it to anyone, Sean
trickyrich
WOW!!!! She is a big one! Great choice though, looks very impressive. Looks very SiFy with those exhausts. Looking forward to see her finished.
sean
A bit more done: Second coat on uppers done, de-icers painted on, and moved the exhausts again as I wasn't happy with their position. Also removed the tape from the canopy, and as it was my first time masking , I'm pretty happy with the result. A wee bit of paint to scrape off, but otherwise it's not too bad. I've since added the rest of the transparencies and aerials to the plane, when they are settled in properly, i'll start touching up the paint. sean
I had sorta of stalled a bit with this, more attention to other builds got in the way. So after a week or so of not doing anything to the Be-6, I finished everything up and just need to put Klear and decals on. I have moved the exhausts again, to their final position, and I converted the top transparency to a gun position. Somewhere along the line I have lost the fuselage windows, and have had to replace them with Clearfix. Another job to tidy up! So, all being well I'll hopefully have this wrapped up tomorrow,( although I am thinking of doing some weathering to it) Sean

sean
Feeling good Steve Decals have been applied over a coat of Klear/Pledge, and if any paint job needed it, is was this one. It has taken the dullness out of the paintjob (Humbrol 155) as well as helping the decals adhere. The decals aren't the best but are the only ones I have for the model, so I've done the best I can with them. Overall things worked out alright. I'm definitely going to try some weathering as I have a load of acrylic paints from starter sets, so if anything goes wrong I can just wipe it off, plus, it will help to break up the green a bit. I'm in two minds whether to paint the stand, and if so, what colour?. Plus, where do I put it once it's finished? Sean
Killingholme
Q1: Build a new stand like this one... Q2: send the finished model to me... Edited May 29, 2013 by Killingholme
sean
Killingholme: Q1: Build a new stand like this one... not a bad idea maybe Q2: send the finished model to me... no chance... the postage alone would be astronomical! Weathering started. I've gone for a well worn and rusty looking aircraft. I've done the wings and tailplanes and a wee bit around the doors and fuselage. I would be interested in your views, (too much.. not enough) as it's the first time I've done anything like this. Also, would there be much wear around the de-icers? Feedback would be much appreciated. I'll also put some fading on some panels? Also a picture of one of my many nieces, Chloe who's 6, holding the model, just to get an idea of size, Any comments welcome Sean Would this be too much weathering? Doug Rogers
I think that weathering might be a bit over the top! His stand obviously wasn't as good as yours Sean. Is that plane the same one as in post#22 I wonder, several years later?

Is that plane the same one as in post#22 I wonder, several years later? Hi Doug, you could be right about the weathering, I don't see myself going that far! As for the plane in post22, it's a later version of the Be-6. If you notice, at the rear you'll see the M.A.D, "stinger tail" addition.
