-ILLIOUCHINE Il 28 BEAGLE

Recommended Posts

Great build!

I bought the same model and am going to build it for sure as my grand dad was flying it and crashed on a Beagle in 1955

I would suggest to you to look at this thread here. It is in Russian but there are plenty of reference materials

http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_20388.html

Spassiba Kastka, it is a great idea to built the Beagle of your grand dad, this kit is really enjoyable to built, just take care when joining the fuselage halves, it could be troublesome, the internal bulkheads may need to be a bit trimmed.I wish you the best for your building

WOW :yikes:

This is nice, the Chinese version would look great.... have only just found this thread.

Will have to watch this build  .......would love one but just not enough space......or time!

for those who worry about resin, it's actually just as easy to work with I find as plastic, you just need to take a little extra time, plus more trial fits. Plus gluing fingers together is normal......:banghead:

-The time has come to take care of the transpparencies

171.jpg
168.jpg
-To remove the part from its sprueI used a dremel with a saw blade, working slowly and cautiously is the key of the success
001_zps9b622350.jpg
-Now the nose cone is to be matted to the fuselage......Yes men it is a resin kit.....To fix the gaps it is necessary tu use resin small pieces for the commonality of materiel as the transparencies of this kit are resin made.

003_zpsc0fd9507.jpg
002_zps34df49d6.jpg
-Now the canopy :.As I want to show this Beagle with an open canopy as I usually do on my models each time it is feasable
014_zps96779734.jpg
013_zpsb406e7c4.jpg
010_zps2845a3c8.jpg
For this it is better to have two canopies ,on the first you cut inside the the framing of the opening part and one the second you cut out side the canopy frame, then trimm the edges of the windscreen, rear part and opening part and you have a very conveicing opened canopy

019_zps51497729.jpg
-The rear deck furnished and canopy installed, here closed for coming painting purposes
- The last glazed area are those of the gunner.. Separating the glass panels from their sprue is delicate and requires some careful trimming to fit their place and to avoid scratches

- Well, next step, the engines nacelle. A piece of cake ...? Not that sure

- It is time to take care of the engine nacelles.;

-Building the inside, with the wheels well , intake cone and exhaust jet engine is not a problem and goes straight forward. as usual;a great care has to be taken in identifiyng the necessary parts, after inserting scratch made landing lights on the outer side of the nacelle, after painting and weathering of the inside, the two halves have to be assembled and here the resin kit show the tip of its nose

- One of the drawback of this kit is the intake opening ring .Owing to the evident mastering ot the moulding technics of HPH it should have been easy to give a complete intake ring which surely had given a better result and aspect of the intakes

013_zps8083c3eb.jpg

- A great deal of resin putty is required to have a neat result
005_zps549a8ed7.jpg
004_zps17643e50.jpg
003_zps65cf413e.jpg
-The paneling has to be restored after the necessary sanding and for some opening panels I 've used adhesiv aluminium foil

-And now an fore taste of things to come

Got distracted by this:

And this:

But here she is...

Took a lot of filler, eapecialy round the nose and engines.

Loving yours though.

It really looks like a Beagle whatever the critics of the trumpy kit...

- So comes the time of installing the engines under the wings. As you may see it is not the asiest part of the building

003_zps34f69b79.jpg

using resin sprue and cyano-putty ease the problem

002_zpsfe187643.jpg

004_zps646bec86.jpg

001_zpsebf84634.jpg
- The fin requires some putty to even the sealing joint with the fuselage and the riveting has to be restored before installing the stabilisators

005_zpsaba708a8.jpg

008_zps17cd70fb.jpg
007_zps4df66cd2.jpg
006_zps43d60ba8.jpg
-Some care has to be taken before installing the stabilisator to respect the dihedral, the best way is to to built a makeshift template

009_zps4a9f65c0.jpg

- Very few putty is needed for this part of the building

010_zps4cce76e7.jpg

012_zps781f295f.jpg
011_zps36ef7bdf.jpg
- The karmans at the junction of the engines pods and wings and some apertures and panels are made of adhesive aluminium foil
014_zps8db33a3d.jpg
013_zpse236fdd6.jpg

016_zps5301760f.jpg

- The pad on the spine is made of adhesive foil as owing to the necessity of sanding the fuselage halves jointure, the resin has become very ,very thin , and some reinforcing was needed

015_zps6865da66.jpg

- The time has come to matt the wings to the fuselage ( at last ) , the things goes fairly well; The droping aspect of the wings on the photos is just a photographic trick, the wings are perfectly flat.

019_zps67347b89.jpg
017_zps6ec9218f.jpg
- A view of the things to come next, the landing gear. This will be the last major operation. YESSSS....before painting of course

- Thank you for looking. J.M

  • 3 weeks later...

- One of the problem wiht this kit is the landing gear. The nose wheel is too long which gives the Beagle a wrong tail down attitude;

- Other problem, the tyre are completly slick, a detail which make the difference between a good model and an excellent one.

-What make very good point of this kit is the reinforced struts of the landing gear, but in this particular occurence it is a source of problem. So I cut the oleo strut and replaced it with another metallic part after a few surgeonnery.

012_zps250767f3.jpg

-I replaced the tyres hph by tyres from a Ju 88 wheels, The tread are not those of the tyres of a Beagle but they look better than the originals ones
