Hi all

Did she have the black vertical strip painted on her like Sheffield.

Thanks in advance

As I recall she did. It was done as a recognition point to avoid confusion with the Argies 2 x 42's.

If you do a Google image search for 'HMS Exeter 1982' you will see a fair few images of Type 42's of that era. What has cinched it for me is the one showing a 42 with a blue bottom instead of black one. The blue bottom was some sort of anti-fouling paint test if I recall correctly, Exeter was the only one that I ever remember seeing with that colour boot topping.

Have had a rummage through my phots of the period just after 82 but cannot find anything with her in.

Of course this now gives you another problem. What was the shade of light blue :-)

I cannot promise anything but I will have a rummage through my shoebox with my 'not good enough for the album' photos and see if I can find anything with her in. It will be around '84 or later though.
