VC-10 RR test bed.

Hello everyone,

I do not know if this topic was posted previously or not, however, I would like to know if anyone may help to gather the following.

G-AXLR was leased in the early 70s from the RAF to Rolls Royce to test the new RB 211 turbofan engine, it had installed in the

left underwing a pod with a Probe/Sensor (It is seen in many pics). Any idea of its dimensions, pics, drawings to reproduce it in 1/144th scale ?

Thank you in advance !!

Rey. :bouncy:

st george and theplasticsurgeon, thank you for the feedback, great info, even though I haven't started to build my VC-10 test bed yet, I already considered those mods

shown by Mike Howles (Great work !) what I am looking for specifically is a good and detailed pic or drawing of the probe/sensor mounted in the right underwing (where

the spare engine is normally mounted when required). I have seen many pics but none are in detail.

Cheers !

Hi Rey

Here are some links for "809" from Flight magazine.I cant find a decent picture of the test Pylon on the right wing.It looks inline with the flap boat fairing just outbd of the undercart. The probable fixing point would be the hard points for the spare engine carraige, around rib 8.I could kick myself now.I saw 809 a few times at Kemble while it sat there waiting to be scrapped. We had the tailplane off it,77/78,eventually I and two others eventually split the tailplane in half with two Ford Granada jacks in Base Hangar, Brize Norton.
