Ar234B-2/N cockpit information

Hi all,

I’m about to embark on a fairly major build project on a 1/48th Hasegawa Ar234B-2/N Nachtigall.

Have got lots of extras to add and have lots of info and pictures of the more normal beast but very few on the nightfighter version.

Records indicate there were only two that actually flew “operationally†so pictures are quite hard to come by.

It’s the cockpit that I really need info on, mainly as to whether the bomb site in the daylight version was still fitted to the night time variant?

Plus the centre gun pod doesn’t really fill me with confidence when compared to the drawings that are around.

If anyone can point me in the right direction with links or pics, that would be great. Plus any additional info would be great on these rare beasts.

cheers

HI Rich

as I have said to folks on here before, you want the Luftwaffe Experten Message Board.   You no longer have to join to view the forum, but it's worth the effort. [you might need to view pics]

I'm pretty certain there were all the know pics of the radar operators cabin.   I know I downloaded some from somewhere, i'm pretty certain it was there....

OK, a quick search shows at least part of my memory still works as it's this one here

also maybe of use

why would it be?  it would serve no function.  If you want real cold hard definite detail on this one you might be disappointed :(

If the info is out there, LEMB will be the place to find it.

There may be some cockpit pics, I just remember the radar cabin tho.

Thanks guys for the info, was helpful.

Troy,

I know about Luftwaffe Experten Message Board and had looked at it before I posted. As you say there is a lot of info, but for pictures you have to become a member, there lies my problem. For some reason I don’t seem able to join, have tried multiple times but no luck, even tried to contact the admin staff, but no response, so don’t know why I cannot join.....so basic have given up on them! Don't know if anyone else has experienced similar problems!

I suspected with these aircraft anything not related to the task would have been removed to save weight, the addition of the radar equipment plus and extra body must have had some effect on the performance of the aircraft. So have sort of figured it would be ok to remove.

Steven,

The articles are great, especially the actual cockpit section I am interested in, thanks for that.

The drawing though is as I’ve seen before, but I wonder how much faith I should pay to the drawing as the antenna mounts are wrong when compared to the actual photo. This doesn’t appear to be an “as built†built drawing and may more likely to be a design drawing. Which then brings me to the gun pod, may have to do some more internet/forum trolling for that!

For some unknown reason Hasegawa didn’t include the Naxos antenna in this version of the kit but does in the later one, even though they share the same marking.....odd.

Again thanks guys for the additional info, have been very helpful, if anyone else has anything that would be greatly appreciated.

cheers
