Airfix car kits....

Ok, Im not alone in being disapointed with the lack of vehicles in the Airfix range. So what would you like Airfix to make?

Just bit of fun, but lets think classic British stuff.....

Starters from me, MGF I have had a couple and LOVED them, now lets have a kit, 1:24 but I would take a 1:32. they could do both a TF, and an F in one box with the differant bumpers, lights and wheels.

How about a move into classic Trucks, a Mickey Mouse Foden, Ergomatic, ERF, A, B, C, D or even an EC in 1:24

Now Im also thinking Morgan, Mclaren.....

What do you think??

I'm loving the classic British metal idea. Let's have some more iconic cars of the 70's while we're at it. A few Fords spring to mind, Mk2 Escort, Mk1 Granada. And how about a Mk1 Transit? And the Jensen Interceptor, Series 1 XJ6 and V8 Rovers (P6 and SD1) would also float my boat. They don't have to do all of them (they do really, I will not accept compromise) but one or two would be a start.

On the subject of classic trucks, I'd love them to do a Scammell Crusader, there's a recovery firm just along the road from me with one of these bad boys in their yard. Now that I mention it, I wonder if they'd let me have a go now that I'm licensed up?

Odd.

Could they not do some classic bikes too? It would be nice to see some kits of bikes like the Velocette MSS, Triumph Bonneville, Royal Enfield Interceptor and the Vincent Black Shadow, to name but a few. And my personal favourite, the Matchless G3/L.

Odd.

If they chose the subjects carefully, they could encourage a huge number of people into the hobby. Cars I think would be a huge success (with the correct marketing):

- Nissan R35 GTR

- Nissan Skyline R34 GTR

- Toyota Supra MKIV

- Toyota MR2 SW20

- Lambourghini Gallardo

- Dodge Vipers

- C6 Corvette

- Volkswagen Golfs, all marks

- Nissan S13, S14a & S15

- BMW M3s

Anything considered a tuner or enthusiast car could do very well, especially if they also sold 'aftermarket modifications', such as Recaro seats and BBS wheels.

I'd definately go for Capri's, Mk1 and 3, a custom Bedford CF, and how about re releasing some of the old yank stuff, corvette etc. :please:

For me it has to be Austin 7;

Chummy

Ulster

Speedy

Nippy

Opal

Top Hat

Grasshopper

Tourer

Fabric Body Saloon

Swallow Tourer

Military

Gordon England Cup

Brooklands Racing Special

'Mrs Jo Jo'

Lotus 7 [original]

Van

and maybe the

Dixie Sports

American Bantam

Rosengart

Just a few versions.

I'd agree with an MGTF, but the 1955 version, not the recent one.

Unfortunately, Airfix have stated that they will not be breaking in to 1/24 scale cars (my particular preference)

But, it would be nice if they did some classic cars in 1/32. Particularly Brit stuff like Astons, Jags, Triumphs or even Fords! Decent kits of 60's and 70's cars would be nice but I doubt the sales volumes would make it worthwhile.

Well if it has to be 1/32, Austin Healey 100/4, 100/6, 3000

                                      Jaguar C-Type, D-Type, XK 120

                                      Aston Martin DBR1, DBR3

Morgan +4 (early version) and Le Mans version, 3 wheeler

                                      AC Ace

Anything pre-war, MG, Lagonda, Alvis etc. as long as it's sporty!

                                      The MG record car

The Sunbeam record car (the Slug), in fact almost any flamin' record car!

Any of the pre-war GP cars, Mercedes, Alfa, Maserati, ERA...........................far too many to list!

Bikes? Well a KTT Velo, AJS 7R, Porcupine, Matchless G50, G45, Norton Manx early version, Rudge Ulster, Excelsior Manxman, early Triumph Speed Twin, early Harley, Indian - pre WW2, Cyclone, Flying Merkel. Again too many to list.

And the chances of seeing any of these............................pretty well zero at a guess, not just from Airfix but from any major plastic moulder.

But I bet we'll see more aircraft that never flew, never existed, never did anything worth doing or were just plain total failures. All of the above were very, very successful in one way or another. It'd be nice to see them sitting next to modern machinery but I'll not hold my breath!

Just my two pennorth.

Even if Airfix re released their old car range it would be a start, there are some nice liitle gems in that lot, obviously no where near todays standards but it would be a start...

And yes, bikes too. There is a serious lack of good quality British bikes out there and there seems to be zero interest by any of the major kit manufacturers.

But yes, we'll continue getting umpteen versions of Spitfires, Jets and obscure things that flew once and became a lawn ornament, and not one bloody maufacturer can show enough initiative to produce a Triumph Speed Triple, or Tiger...

Oh wait, Airfix has launched a new 'british' car... that butt ugly Mini WRC car... eeeeuuuuuuuuuuu!!!.

Ok, rant over, wheres me pills :analintruder:

OH HOW I AGREE!!!!!!!

I'm SICK of seeing more and more blasted versions of the Spitfire (bore-plane!) Mk I, II, 111, 11A, 111B, 111 --D - YXZ...!!!!

WHEN will we ever get any DECENT cars!!!!!!!

The above lists contain some real gems that we all know will never get made.

Just look at the Airfix calendar last year, and this year....

NOTHING but flippin' planes!!!!!!

Calendar?..... NO!

Loo roll?.... YES!!!!

Remember reading somewhere that the moulds for most of the Airfix 1/32 cars got wrecked by being left out in the rain? Not sure if anyone can confirm or deny that rumour.

Seems strange that the Triumph TR, E type, Aston and Escort keep getting rolled out considering there were about 20+ kits originally (thereabouts)

Would have thought Airfix would re-release something else if they still could. I think the Capri would sell well if the mould still existed. Also, the Bond Bug sells for insane money on ebay.

Personally, I'd love a 1/24 "Top Gear Great British Cool Wall" with a Noble M600, McLaren P1, Aston V12 Vantage etc. But that won't happen -- as Steve said, they won't do 1/24.

But, realistically, there's plenty to go at that's already been done as recent Scalextric cars in 1/32, which might ACTUALLY be worth lobbying for. Top of my list would be a new-tool DB5 based on the one in the Scalextric Skyfall set...

Reliant supervan, robin, regal and kitten all in 1/24 but out of all of the the Reliants the supervan would be my top pick, there would be so many liverys Royal Mail, Eddie stobart, Del Boy, and Little blue. I emailed Revell and they said there would not be much intrest in reliant vehicles to make it worth there investment and I guess this is the problem with a lot of manufactures they want models that will be popular all across Europe and not just the UK to make it worth there investment in production costs....

For example:

DB5

D-type Jaguar

Lotus 49

Escort Mk1 and II

GT40

Maserati 250F

MP4-12C

Aventador

Lotus Evora

Maserati Trofeo

Audi Sport Quattro

Ford RS200

MG Metro 6R4

Lola Aston Martin

Any four out of that lot would suit me fine as Airfix's 2014 1/32 car range...

This ^^^

The Corgi Vanguards range shows there's plenty of interest, and your average active UK modeller is the right sort of age profile to be nostalgic about cars of this era. In 1/32 they would also cross-kit nicely with Scalextric.

My top ten tips would be:

Jensen Interceptor II/III

Rover P5B Coupe

Rover P6

Ford Capri 2.8i

Ford Escort Mark II - flat-front and RS2000

Ford Granada 2.8i Ghia

Opel Manta B (okay, not hugely British but also sold as the Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe and very popular here)

Jaguar XJ6 Series 2

Triumph TR6

Triumph Stag

Steve (Triumphfan) - unfortunately the existing Capri was one of those of which they butchered the moulds during the Kustom Kar Kraze.

Sorry this is the wrong Reliant range.  Just think Airfix could save a packet in typesetting if they release a Scimitar of the Reliant variety at the same time they release the 1/48th Supermarine one - hoping, smiley face, please please please Mr Airfix.........

And we could have a tiny little Princess Anne to go with it telling all and sundry to Naff Orf!!

Wish I could post a picture of my old one. Broke my heart in 17 places (Shepherds Bush was only one - thankyew Kirsty McColl) but it was a thing of great joy when it was working. A 1974 SE5a, manual with overdrive, BRG with tan interior, tuned and lightened engine that hissed like a cobra under the bonnet and burbled like a brook at the back. Fast (it could keep a Mk II Golf GTI 16v honest) and with superb handling, it never put a foot wrong, in snow, ice, sunshine or rain.

Ah , but wasn't it a pain in the butt when it wasn't !!!!   Remember the day we picked it up from Finsbury Park with Guy's horrible old Cortina & the trailer & took it to Silverstone to get the siezed suspension fettled .  Boy , was that a long day
