Clave
fighter albatros DV DVa profile art clave WW1 germany luftstreitkrafte The Albatros D.V entered service with the Luftstreitkrafte in 1917 and despite structural problems with the design 900 D.V and 1,600 D.Va were built. The D.V was heavily criticised by Manfred von Richthofen who preferred the older version, the D.III. But the problems with the Fokker Dr.I and Pfalz D.III meant there was little choice but to keep the Albatros as a front-line fighter. The D.V was armed with 2 x 7.92mm machine guns. larkie
Fantastic work, Clave. These are absolutely immaculate. Psychologically wasn't there a bit of a disconnect between how these aircraft were painted up for party-time and the nature of the actual work they were being used for... ? Or was that all part of the bravado thing?
Clave
Thanks everyone! As for the bright colours... I think some of was for identification, and maybe intimidation too... camouflage (and the lack of it) changed so much over the years and has always been a fascinating subject for me, which is why I tend to do a lot of the same aircraft, and show as many different countries and/or units as I can...
