erikmuntz
Hey guys. Not sure if you all remember me as I basically dropped off the face of the (modeling) planet back in July when college apps and cross country season started. I had quite a bit of plans in place for numerous group builds but I'm only now getting back to the bench after about a four month drought. I figured this GB could get me goin and keep me going. I have two kits in mind. First, the Revell F-84. This is better than the Tamiya kit but in my stupidity and lack of experience I messed some things up. Rather, a lot of things up. First, I threw the cockpit together without adding additional detail and if you know me, that's not like me at all. Second, I messed up glueing the wings and caused some huge gaps in the wingtip tanks. Finally, I drilled out the wrong holes for the rockets. Doh! I pulled this kit out today and figured I could fix those mistake and make a decent model of it. Kit number two is the AM TBM Avenger. This thing is 90 percent done but I lost interest and still don't have motivation. We'll see if I can get that back here soon! Pictures to come and I hope that you all greatly enjoy your holiday season as it begins!! Erik

erikmuntz
Hey guys, First, I currently have three projects on the bench. Am I crazy?!?! Yea. After returning this past week I decided that I might as well just go big or go home. The first of these projects is the "main attraction" and is the project I had just started before being forced to take time off. I'm also making a base for this and that is also taking up quite a bit of time. Regardless, here we have some pictures of the build and the base that is in progress. I'm telling you this to lay down the background as to why the F-84 hasn't quite poked its head out yet. All in good time. I have, however, fixed the problems which were mentioned in the above post with filling, sanding, and rescribing to my liking. Pre-sand: After sanding and rescribing: Regardless, the Fw-190 should be finished here by the weekend and the F-84 will take precedence over another kit which was shoved aside when I got the AM TBM: the Bf-109E by Hasegawa. This is more of a "whats up" and explanation than an update but thats all thats on my plate right now. Wow, three models at a time. I MUST be losing it. erikmuntz
Hey guys, Kinda stalled out on the Fw-190 so decided to start working on the F-84 a wee bit. I made up some belts, finished the cockpit with an acrylic wash and quick dash of paint here and there, and also added the side panels as well as started the ordinance. Here is the progress of today. Left side panel goof up so I had to use some filler: Right side panel was much better: Cockpit belts made with tape painted an olive green color and some aluminum foil. They look much better in real life. And finally, the rockets that I glued together in about, oh, say 3 minutes and stuck on the wing! Sorry that I'm not making much progress on this one...it might be a looooooong build. It's also going to be painted NMF, of course, and therefore I am taking my time to ensure the best finish. Let me know what you think on this marginal progress if you desire or wait for a more substantial update, either one is fine! Also, let us not forget that December 7 was the day that Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. Do not forget those soldiers that lost their lives not only during the attack on Pearl Harbor but also throughout World War 2 so that we may be free. erikmuntz
Hola Mis Amigos! I got quite a bit of work done on both builds. First, here is the Fw-190 over the base I made for it. I think it'll look pretty good when done! Right, next we have work on the F-84. First, I got the areas surrounding the cockpit painted and added the cockpit and forward wheel well. I also added weight to this model using nickels and dimes (is that legal?...) which worked perfectly. I used superglue to fix them to the model so I am going to have to wait 2 or 3 days before adding the transparencies to allow the glue to dry. That's alright, though, as there is plenty to do! Next, I started working on some of the smaller details. First, I drilled out the airbrake in order to make it much more realistic. Rather than having this open, though, I am going to have it closed as I am head over heels for the shape the F-84 with the canopy closed and everything in its flying position. Finally, I added some wires to the rear decking of the cockpit and then painted it up. I managed to break of the forward wheel well doors (well, one fell off and then I cut the other off cause I thought that it would make building much much easier) Comments/criticism welcome. erikmuntz
Heyo, Just a quick update before I go do calculus Got the fuselage glued together, seems cleaned up, and applied a wee bit of filler due to human error. :/ Also, tried something new. I mixed green food coloring with Future and "tinted" the HUD green. Should have the whole airframe fixed up tomorrow when I will start to prepare the aircraft for painting. erikmuntz
Hello, Turns out that in order to use the decals supplied in the kit the aircraft must be backdated to an "E" rather than a "G". This aircraft arrived in 1951 long before the Gs arrived an Revell made a mistake in believing this is a G (I think) due to the retrofitted framed canopy. There are minor modifications including the removal of two vents, the sanding of the port wing receptical, and the elimation of the two refueling probes on the tip tanks. Easy work and it is near done. Pictures to follow tomorrow with the completion of the conversion
erikmuntz
Hello, I believe that every build has its purpose to develop a modeler in one way or another. This build is developing my gap filling and patience. First, in order to convert the G to and E aircraft I had to fill in the blown in doors, remove the port wing IFR receptacle, and also remove the IFR probes. Two of these were done rather quickly, but filling in the blown doors gave me some trouble. I am finally happy with the result and here is the process that I used to obtain said result. 1) Filler x2 2) Superglue x2 3) Alclad White Primer Painted on x2. We'll see how it looks when she's in her NMF but here she is at the moment! Comments/criticism welcome! Erik
erikmuntz
Yellow Got the F-84 ready for Alclad with a coat of Gloss Black. Pretty happy with how this turned out. There was some plastic eaten but I was able to fix it up with a quick sand and respray. Weird that even though there was primer down one small area still reacted with the plastic. Hmmm Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na...BATMAN! Haha, Erik
