Dads203
Today's update, nothing too exciting to report today. Road wheels are painted washed and are ready for weathering, commanders sight unit has been painted. I'm off now for the holidays so hopefully after getting a few last minute presents I'll be able to start the running gear weathering. smuts
Hi Dan, lookin the mutts nuts.. remember reading about the T64 that it was the best MBT the red army 's ever had but they couldn't aford to build them in the quantities they wanted so they opted for the 72 which was a real dumbed down cheaper option.... can see the T90 in those lines too. Mike
It's looking very nice my dear - keep up the good work, and remember that we need this finished by New Year's, but not at the expense of its quality
Dads203
Thanks chaps, working on the lower hull weathering at the moment, Andy you are right about T-64, it's the only Soviet Tank never to have been exported to the rest of the Warsaw Pact, as the Russians thought it to be too valuable. Issued to only the top tank units, also it was the first MBT with a gas turbine power pack although it was never put into service with it fitted. Anyway back to the progress pictures. These tanks seem to drip oil from the final drives, nearly all the pictures I have found show the rear drive casing liberally coated in oil, dust and mud. I've tried to replicate this with pigment and Mig oil and grease. Tracks I'm going to keep the mud and dust to a minimum on this build, I've got a bit of an idea for a diorama which will include another vehicle and a few figures. Dads203
Hi Andy, Alclad black primer to start with, dry for 24 hours and then I used the following :- The graphite pencil is to highlight the wear on the links and works well, doesn't show well on my crap photography .. Dads203
Tiny update today, just started the painting of the unditching log, Tamiya German yellow over primer and then treated with oil paint to try and get the wood grain effect, still loads more work required before I can fit this item, it will probably take a week to dry. I've also removed the drivers hatch and fitted the lifting bar, the kit only allows for the hatch to be modeled in the closed position, easy mod to do just drill out the upper hull bearing and add some plastic rod to the underside of the hatch. I also acquired this little gem of a kit this morning, probably use it on the diorama Cheers and merry Xmas everybody Dan
Dads203
Some better pictures, I've also done the sideskirts and the Gill Armour, Rubber parts were sprayed yesterday and masked this afternoon ready for the green. Dads203
Cheers Nick, I have loads of ref photo's that you can have next time you come over. I've added the exhaust staining to the unditching log and started the rain staining on the sides and gill armour using Migs Rain Marks The tarp that i made has painted up quite well, its not been glued yet I've got some crew figures from ICM that i'll add some resin heads for this one, Driver , gunner and commander I'll post once I've made a start on these. Dads203
A few more pictures, Not calling it finished just yet, some areas need more work and I also need to spray a thin layer of dust to the running gear just to tie it all in. Enjoy Dan

Dads203
Small update from the last couple of days, with it being Christmas things have have been a little slow. First up the figure set from ICM, I'll use one figure for the loader which is roughed out. He need some tweaking to look right, I don't think I'll use the commander figure from the box as it will be a little difficult to get him to look right in the hatch. One thing that strikes me from adding the figure is how small these tanks were, they are MBT's but are around 40 tonnes where as the western counterparts were close to 60 tonnes and a lot bigger. The T-64 only had a 3 man crew. Hope you all had a good Christmas break and now looking forward to the new year. Take Care Dan Edited December 26, 2012 by Dads203
