chrisrope
Here is my entry for this GB. It is the 1/72 Matchbox Viggen twin seater. Here's what I started with- -Blasted with Halfords finest primer -Intakes stuck to fuse halves -Wings glued -Canopies dipped and masked -Basic cockpit floor glued in one side (it had none before, just pegs for the seats) -Exhaust assembled and given a coat of Humbrol 53 I got this approved under the 25% rule so here we go.... chrisrope
.....And here we are now. I had put off the inevitable filling and sanding long enough and got on with it. I had glued the wings previously but not very well so they got some filler. they have also had their pylons fitted but they still need fairing in The fit of the intakes was not great and after gluing the fuse halves together, neither was the fit of the belly piece so they were given a dose. In a possibly lucky way, the Matchbox plastic is thick and the detail deep so will withstand a vigorous sanding (which it needed) I have added some plasticard to the back of the rear cockpit so the canopy now fits with no gaps The canards have been fitted too. I read on another thread that its wheels down-canard flaps down so I have cut them off to be applied in the dropped position. Thats why they look a bit small and pointy in the pictures. I'm doing nothing fancy and detailed in the cockpits as the canopies are very, very thick and you'll see nowt anyway. And finally, with the wings just pushed on, its heading the right way- Cheers Chris P.S. it will be finished in the box art scheme of all over silver
Roland Pulfrew
Good progress Chris. I remember building one of these in my youth; odd concept the multi colour plastics that they produced back then. Looking forwar to seeing how this turn out. Enzo the Magnificent
I also built a Matchbox Viggen back in the day. I had forgotten that th wing parts were the completeopposite of the parts in most kits. The uppersurface parts were smaller and fitted into cutouts in the lower wing. Weird! chrisrope
Apart from the 6 foot thick canopies, the wing is the worst bit i've encountered. Even with some packing, the top surfaces still dropped down too far round the edges, hence the filling required. It is a terrible way of doing it but it's a Matchbox, every MB kit i've built or have in the stash has something wierd or quirky about it Chris I also built a Matchbox Viggen back in the day. Arniec
Any progress? I have the same model bought at Telford for a pound and I am very interested in the build. Cheers,
theplasticsurgeon
I read on another thread that its wheels down-canard flaps down so I have cut them off to be applied in the dropped position. P.S. it will be finished in the box art scheme of all over silver Canards only droop when the plane is parked, engine off. Under power the canards control pitch. The Heller kit had the thrust reversers active in the exhaust, so I reckoned engine on - better put a pilot in to drive it Let me know if you can use leftover Heller decals for a splinter aircraft - it has a twinstick option. chrisrope
Progress has been made, I've slowly been chipping away at it so I am now here I'm done with filling and sanding it all now, should hopefully get the silver topcoat on Friday. ArnieC just build it and have fun with it I say, hopefully one day a nice new 1/72 Viggen will be released. Plasticsurgeon, one day I'll be brave enough to do a splinter scheme, just not now. Maybe when I do the heller one I have in the loft. Thanks for the offer though. Re the canards, mine will be a parked up aircraft so hopefully the dropped canards will look right( the exhaust petals are shut) Cheers Chris
Arniec
Chris, If you don't mind I prefer 1/48 to have a new one. But than they would scale it down. Cheers
