johnnyboy Posted September 27, 2012 Share Posted September 27, 2012 As It now seems likely that many panel lines on the wings of P51 were putted over and painted silver dope on N/F of USAAF aircraft but were these panels painted over on RAF Mk 1V in the Silver finish? stevehnz Posted September 27, 2012 Share Posted September 27, 2012 jb, I think its fair to say that silver RAF 'stangs would have had the same filled & silver painted wing finish that US ones did. It was crucial to the laminar flow characteristics of the wing. A very good diagram illustring the different finishes on various areas of the wings is here on ARC, the rest of that largish thread should reveal all you could possibly need to know. Steve.
