ZOUKEI-MURA 1:32 Skyraider - VA-176 MiG Killer

Recommended Posts

Calling it done - need to get the build written up for Military in Scale now...

May add a little more oily stuff underneath - but will sleep on it.

Model is extensively weathered - albeit fairly subtly in places.

Very nice Iain, looks a really good kit. Not nearly enough staining though! They had a 38 litre oil tank and most of it leaked out on a sortie - according to the A-1 Sandy website, Skyraider endurance was determined by how long the oil lasted, not the fuel!

Going to add some more oil stains underneath later today - there are already a lot there - but have been using a new material (to me anyway) that I discovered in the Model Railway section of the model shop - Modelmates 'Oil Brown' Weathering liquid. Really like the effects it creates - but not showing up very much in the photos - so will make a lot darker (if you look carefully at the drop tank for instance you'll see some of the staining).

Weathering is a very personal thing in modelling - I prefer the less is more approach and probably spend as much time looking at photos of the real thing trying to get a feel for how I think the model should look as I do picking up details!
