bootneck
C-2A Greyhound conversion set 1:144 OzMods The C-2 Greyhound is a derivative of the E-2 Hawkeye which is produced by Grumman. The C-2 Greyhound's main role is as a cargo plane for the US Navy and is particularly suited for Carrier on-board delivery (COD). It is designed to land on aircraft carriers and provide critical logistics support to carrier strike groups. Although the Greyhound has the same wings and power plants as the E-2 Hawkeye, the Greyhound's fuselage is wider and it is fitted with a rear loading ramp. The Greyhound has been in service since 1965 and was originally powered by two Allison T56-A-425 turboprop engines with four-bladed Hamilton-Sundstrand constant-speed propellers. Later, a maintenance upgrade replaced the older propellers by the new eight-bladed NP2000 propeller from Hamilton Sundstrand. Conversion Set This conversion set requires the Revell 1:144 E-2C Hawkeye as the donor kit. The conversion set consists of 5 sprues consisting a total of 13 items, containing fuselage halves; cargo ramps; a newtail plane; detailed cockpit and smaller parts such as antennas and fairings. A set of decals is included which is produced by Ronrn Graphics of Australia. There is also a single sheet of instructions with a colourful decal placement sheet on the reverse. Fuselage sprues Two sprues contain the replacement fuselage halves which are split along the spine of the aircraft. The main thing to note is that the cockpit and fuselage are intergral components and cast in clear injection moulded (IM) plastic. The obvious benefits of this feature is this removes any unsightly joins between a separate cockpit and fuselage usually found on other kits. OzMods recommends that the cockpit should be polished with a plastic polish followed by dipping in Future Floor Finish (Klear) for best results. The fuselage parts have finely scribed panel lines which should be just about the right depth for airbrushing, however these details could be lost if brush painted as they really are very fine. Tailplane, Hatches and Wheel Flaps This sprue is produced in a light-grey, almost opaque, plastic and consists of the upper and lower elements of the cargo ramp; replacement nose-wheel flaps and a side fairing which fits on the port side below the cockpit window. Replacement Cockpit and Antennas Two other sprues consist of the cockpit and external attachments. The first contains the cockpit floor, which has two seats, rear wall and a centre console moulded as a single unit. The other sprue contains parts to represent various dorsal fairings and antennas. Instruction Sheet All the components in this conversion set are either to replace or to be used with items from the Revell E-2C Hawkeye kit and the instruction sheet shows which OzMods and Revell components to be used. Decals The decal sheet provides markings for a C-2A Greyhound of Detachment 5, Fleet Logistic Support Squadron Three Zero ( VRC-30 Providers), United States Navy and based on board the carrier CVN-73 USS George Washington in 2011. VRC-30 is a component of Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) whose home base is at Atsugi, Japan. Conclusion This is a very nice little conversion set which allows you to build a C-2A Greyhound by utilizing a Revell 1:144 E-2C Hawkeye kit combined with the replacement and additional components from this Ozmods set. Some fine 'tidying up' of surface edges and sprue cut-offs will be needed to ensure a good fit but initial views seem to show that this should not be a problem for the average modeller. bootneck
I have noticed that someone liked this today but some of the links were broken. Although this review dates back to 2012, I feel this is still a nice little conversion set to make a C-2A Greyhound from the Revell E-2C Hawkeye kit. I have repaired the links so hopefully all the images are now visible again. Mike
