T-28B/C Trojan Cockpit Set (for Roden)

1:48 True Details

We reviewed the new Roden kit in March here. Well True Details, as usual haven't wasted any time in bringing out this cockpit upgrade in high quality resin.

Detail is excellent throughout, and the cockpit tub is very nicely appointed with a lot of switch gear and instrumentation that is missing from the kit equivalent part. The moulded in sidewall detail needs removing before installation, and a quartet of nicely detailed replacement skins are provided to fit the resulting gaps in the cockpit. The instrument panel is new, and with the addition of some Airscale instrument decals should look very nice indeed. The coaming and panel for the rear-seater is very sharp, and has lots of instrument backs and wiring visible under the front of the coaming. Rudder pedals and the control sticks are both replaced, and a number of smaller resin parts affix about the cockpit to improve the detail further. The pilots' seats have moulded in belts, and happily have different layouts to the discarded belts, so have come from different moulds and masters. This is a nice touch, and typical of True Details' attention to detail.

Conclusion

The detail is streets ahead of the kit parts, and should improve the look of your Trojan once installed and painted sympathetically. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, with plenty of black and white pictures with part numbers called out with long arrows so as not to confuse the issue. As always with upgrades of this nature, and as stated in large letters at the top of the instructions, test fit before gluing! Wise words indeed, and not just for resin… it's a maxim that should be writ large on the heart of modellers everywhere.

The only drawback of the set is that you will still need to use the kit canopy, which is a Roden weak point, as they are often a little opaque at times, and very thin, which makes them prone to crazing and cracking at the sprue gates. I'd be tempted to try and source a vacform canopy, or harass a manufacturer into producing one.

Highly recommended.
