Hi Guys,

I have been searching for a very specific photographic view of a F-4K/M (FG.1/FGR.2) Phantom II with no success, so I am appealing to all Phantom fans out there for help?

The particular view I am looking for is a plan view of the aircrft looking directly down onto it from above - either in flight or on the ground. There are some features of the aircraft that I need to check out for my conversion, and the right picture would confirm my thoughts.

Many thanks

Derek

What is it you are trying to confirm?

Hello Tailspin,

Thank you for the image (it is really useful). The reason I need a photograph is to confirm the width of the fuselage spine between the intakes. Most scale model F-4K/M drawings appear to be generally modified F-4J drawings, and there is doubt in this area, hence my request.

Many thanks

Derek

My educated guess (I was a McDonnell flight test engineer on the F-4K program) is that the width of the fuselage spine did not change. The Spey required a slightly wider, deeper (toward the rear) fuselage. To minimize tooling changes, I doubt that engineering would have required lines changes above the intersection of the spine and the engine housings. For what it's worth, I'll compare and contrast some pretty good McAir front and side views of the F-4J and F-4K/M and post the results.

Thank you, that would be good. I also feel the same as you on this issue for the same reasons. From a side profile of the F-4K/M Phantom Vs the US F-4J, I noticed that the height of the intake top line along the length of the fuselage appears to be fractionally higher than the F-4J and also curves from the front all the way back to a point approximately level with the front of the rear fuselage auxiliary intake/bypass door line.

Many thanks

Derek

I think you're right. For my current assessment, see http://tailhooktopic...om-changes.html

Never noticed that difference in the intake tunnel before, nice spot on the blog
