chrisrope
Hi, Ok not really RC but its the nearest section. Many years ago I built a Keil Kraft Spitfire, the smaller of the rubber powered ones. My dad and I spent ages building it up and I seem to remember just before we got to cover it, a wing got crushed and never got rebuilt. I remember the words 'formers' and 'stringers' being used, stabbing my fingers with pins and enjoying building it. Fast forward a few years I picked up a Guillows Mustang. This looks like it builds up using push out sheets of balsa and I wasn't impressed. However, after a scan through Ebay and I have found this-- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/West-Wings-Wingl...=item336d24dae9 There's also a Spitfire and a 109 in the same series/scale (1/24). Anyway, rambling over, has anyone with experience of the old Keil Kraft kits built one of these, do they build up the same? Cheers for any help and advice Chris Edited April 19, 2012 by chrisrope
Hawkkeeper
I haven't built one, but the West Wings factory is just up the road from Culdrose airfield where I work. http://www.westwings.co.uk/ just seen the website & they do a big hawk too. Madmonk
Chris, We were in Cornwall last week and I called in on West Wings, nice shop though mainly R/C. I did pick up one of there Hurricane kits, not the one you are looking at but the 20" wingspan version. The balsa part are per printed but not per cut on the small version, might be worth checking on the website to check this one. Other than that they build just as you remember. The guy at West Wings told me that there is a 4 part video on YouTube showing the build and electrification of the hurricane, haven't had a look for it yet. chrisrope
Cheers Warren, that is great info, just what I needed I think i'll be getting one of these and a 109 as soon as I can. I just hope it lasts longer than my last balsa plane, 6 months building it and 2 minutes of flying till it crashed Hawkkeeper, I'd love one of the BIG Hawks too, thats immense value for £90 just as a static model Cheers Chris Edited April 20, 2012 by chrisrope
Madmonk
Chris, Just checked the West Wings Site and it is the same kit as the one I have just bought, might be worth checking with West Wings as £5 postage seems a bit steep. The box is about about 350mm x 100mm by 20mm at most and weight is very light!
Kallisti
There was a Hurricane in the West Wing? Which episode?
Madmonk
Chris, If you type model hurricane part 1 into YouTube there is the first of 4 parts of a build of the Hurricane. Taxi for Kallisti!

chrisrope
Fast forward a whole year, I have just taken delivery of a West Wings Hurricane and Spitfire in a superb one off deal on Ebay. Got the two for £15 with a tube of glue. Well chuffed doesn't describe it. I can say the kits look superb, plans relatively easy to follow and everything you need in the box except glue and dope. Just need a board I can stick pins in and i'm off Chris
