Hardtarget
I made a start on the two kits im planning on building. First up the infamous xtrakix T7 in the guise of the Admiral Barge with Freighdogs improvement set. I first primed all parts flat white as this will give me the base for the underside gloss white. Assembly of the pit began with the fron and back bulkheads to the underfloor. Then I moved onto the tail which required a bit of surgery, marking the areas that need removing. Using the demmel cutter, rather dangerous kit that especially with a nice disk so close to the fingers., Anyway the part was duly removed. Then the other fuselage half had the same treatment with the PUR part trimmed and sanded down from its block to fit. Next up the airbrush was loaded with some night for the cockpit areas. Whilst that those parts were drying the wings got their turn. A bit of a fit issue with them but after some sanding they eventually fitted flush. Once the cockpit was dry, i set upon painting the details of the pit and seats. Next up the fitting of the pit to the fuselage. Warnig this is fiddily and doesnt fit. Its been covered before so I dont need to go into detail but the pit frame is too big hence sanding is required before fitting of the halves. The nose gear well was also cemented into place. Fuselage halves eventually married up and held ito place with tamiya tape. Edited April 7, 2012 by Hardtarget
Hardtarget
Yesterday saw the infamous wings get fitted to the aircraft. The starboard wing doesnt fit and you need a lot of sanding and fettling around to get a fit that is acceptable. However eventually after about a good 45mins plaing around with the wings they fitten enough and cemented into place. Mr surfacer will be required to fill any small gaps. The tailpart was fitted at this stage and some sanding of the seams were also carried out. Todays work started on the Revell FGA.10. This is the standard FGA.9 kit with the Alleycat conversion. Assembly of the pit was quick then the airbrush was loaded with some night to give the cockpit its main colour. The fuselage halves also had their coats. Assembly of the wings and slats angled 10-15 deg down for some annimation. The tailcone was also assembled. Pat C
While you are doing this good work don't forget the leading edge dog tooth extends too far inboard. Have a look at the Revell wings vs the Xtrakit one. Trimming it back ~5mm or so improves the look I think. Pat
Hardtarget
Thanks Pat, just looked at this and your right its too far inboard so ive marked the area to be chopped. Cheers for that.
canberraman
HT That Xtrakit T7 looks a bit of a handful but I'm impressed by your dedication and progress to date. At least the Revell FGA9 is a breeze to build by comparison and a lovely kit to boot. Regards Mark
Hardtarget
Some progress this week on the two hunters. First up the T8 All masked up she had her EDSG & underside white coats applied (i forgot to take a pic of the masking). FGA/PR.10 Cockpit painted Wings meet fuselage. Fot a bit more detail i drilled out the gun nozzels New PR nose and some lead weight New nose on main frame ready for any filling and sanding then onto masking and painting. AnonymousAA72
Coming along nicely HT.....but hold on a second or two...The Admiral's Barge T8 should be Gloss Blue and White NOT EDSG & White....

Hardtarget
Smoe progress on the hunters. PR10 Canopy added and also the ailerons ready for priming. Primed using hu1 Application of her RAF green using hu163 Then the application of her dk sea grey hand sprayed no masking using tamiya xf-54 And thanks to Bill for highlighting my eagerness when spraying the EDSG, the T8 is now in her more familiar colour of roundal blue. Hardtarget
Some more progress on the hunters. Underside for the PR.10 masked and sprayed LAG. Topside was given a coat of klear and masking of the canopy finally removed. I masked the wheel wells of both AC today and giving them a coating of tamiya flat silver. U/C fitted to both aircraft. One thing i notice is the shear quality of the revell to the xtrakit offering when fitting and the detail of the U/C.
Smark
Nice couple of builds there HT! Re: the FGA.10, I'm always impressed by modellers that can spray freehand: something I have yet to master. Nice one! Mark

Nice one! Mark Its not easy thats for sure but im happy seeing its my first go. I do need to get a finer nozzel airbrush as the one I have is the Chinese cheap import which has a 3.5mm. Im biding my time to purchase the H&B Evo Solo which is a 2mm so it will help with the blending of the camo for future builds. This method beats all that masking thats forsure.
