SUNDON
Undercoat on I used Tamiya XF-19 sky grey for this. The pre-shading, I used some dark grey for this as I thought black would be to dark as the final colours are quite light. On to the final colours next I'm using Xtracrylix acrylic for this. For those of you with eagle eyes you may have noticed the guns have gone missing. I got fed up of knocking them off so they will be attached latter. jacksdad
Good progress Martin. I do like the painting stage as that's when you start to see it taking shape. Personally, I use black for pre-shading as it can be toned down with light sprays of the colours. Keep up the good work. Steve
SUNDON
The painting begins Rlm 76 painted on the underside and some tape on to protect the paint before applying the other colours. Rlm 79 applied, just the Rlm 80 to go. Martin

SUNDON
The camouflage pattern , rlm 80 mottled applied over the upper surfaces and fuselage. A couple of coats of klear and on to the decals. After the decals are on I've got to overspray some of them as the paint scheme was painted in the field and not all of the markings were masked during the painting. Mottlemaster
Your paintwork has come out very well, not the easiest mottles to apply but you have nailed it.

jacksdad
Looking good Martin. What set-up did you use for doing the mottles? I only ask as I have the Eduard 1/32 Bf109 E-7 Trop in the stash. Steve

Steve Had my airbrush set at about 15 psi , paint was Xtracrylix RLM 80 mixed 50/50 with Tamiya X-20A thinners and the painting was freehand. I thought about using a mask but decided against it as I wanted a soft edge finish as I belive this is how it was applied in the field. After the first coat I lightened the paint a little with some white and then went over the mottles to fade them a little. Martin

tank152
Lovely neat work. I think using masks would just make for harder work when doing those mottles and like you say they'd have been done free hand in the field.
SUNDON
Finally made some more progress after some help from Paul at IPMS with the squadron markings and crosses out of the DecalBank (The original decals were lost) The aircraft was painted in the field so most of the markings were not masked and as such painted over including the swastikas and crosses. A couple of coats of klear have been sprayed on to seal everthing before I start to weather. Weathering next and a flat coat . Martin

SUNDON
The last part of the build. A flat coat has been applied and the weathering continues. Just the final few parts to be attached. I've got to add some exhaust aswell before I call this finished. The next post will hopefully show the finished beast. Martin
SUNDON
Finished. This is my FW 190F-8 from 1./SG 4 ,Italy ,June ,1944 built from the Edaurd Weekend boxing with decals from the spares box and from the Decalbank's help. I used some Eduard PE Seatbelts and a antenna was also added. I used mainly Xtracrylix paints but also some Revell Aqua acrylic's aswell. I used a oil wash and some pastels for a light weathering.
