As I've said elsewhere, this will be my first figure in ages - I hope my oil paints haven't dried up.

Box art is OK

You can't see it in these pics, but the plastic is suffering from flow lines (which IIRC was quite common in Dragon figures at one time) in a number of places. The kit was missing the hat when I got it, so I've copied those from the Tamiya tank commander kit (map case, binocs and holster also). This also gives me the option of giving him a promotion to untersturmfuhrer.

Generally the fit and breakdown of the kit is good enough to allow construction to proceed as a series of sub-assemblies, but there is one glaring exception -

Time to get the filler out, I think.

Yep Dragon figs still suffer from flow lines, even in 1/35. Mr Surfacer should cover them up though.

Looking forward to seeing this - figures are still a no-go area for me...

Thanks guys.

Right, I've selected all of the pieces I'm going to use and given them a trial fit using blutac. I really like the pose so I'm not going to mess with it. I have deepened the creases on the trousers however, as they were sculpted a bit too tight for my liking. The makeup of the final figure can be represented by this:

Because of the vagueness of the leg assembly, the alignment of the legs to the body was a bit off, so after much filing and sanding I've given the joint lots of glue and left it overnight. I've also stuck the feet on because there was a bit of a gap and I've assembled the hat. The only job left is to mount the whole lot on handles ready for priming:

Tonight it will be on with the Mr. Surfacer 1200 and then the fun can really begin.

Cheers for now

Andy

Had a bit of a session the other day. The Mr. Surfacer went on with no problem as usual and I felt so encouraged that I left the airbrush out whilst it hardened (SWMBO and kids were out for the day) so that I could put on the acrylic basecoats. The uniform and flesh base is Humbrol Oak, the canvas base is a mix of Xtracrylix Tan Yellow and Hemp, the hat and cannister are Tamiya RLM Grey and Extracylix Bronze Green and the MP44 is Citadel Boltgun metal.

I'm going to use the MP44 as a test to get my eye back in with the oils and after that pluck up the courage to tackle the other bits of kit.

Struggling a bit as real life keeps getting in the way. I haven't finished anything since Christmas!

Will post pics as I take them.

Great work on what looks to be a good figure kit, Andy. I like the MP44

No worries Andy - we've all been there!

Very promising build so far though - would be good to see it as a KUTA build (unless to get a flash of inspiration and finish today ;))
