Eduard Fw190 A8/R2

Recommended Posts

Right,

Having finally finished my shark mouth Mustang III I decided it was time to crack on with the 190!

So I opened up the box yesterday to find out what I had in there!

To my surprise I have the full Eduard etch kit, Resin wheel bays, brass turned gun barrels and full colour cockpit etch!

So after being massively overwhelmed by the sheer volume of plastic and the number of options the etch has given me I was torn....

Do I do it with EVERY hatch open, including cowl flaps and gun cowl hatches showing the engine - when the cowl flaps can be replaced with etch and I can superdetail the engine with the etch too......

Do I just close it up and get it done quicker.....

After looking around online at other builds I have decided to go the whole hog.

This build will have it's guts on display - so off to Hannants to buy landing flaps to finish the job!

I'll hopefully start fiddling with plastic later this week!

OK - update!

Having been away with work the last couple of weeks I havent really had chance to crack on with this, but I've now spent quite a long time sanding, scraping, cutting etc and now have one wing sanded to almost transparent which the flaps will fit in correctly!

Before I cracked on with the other wing I needed something more interesting to do, so I built up the engine.

It's a little kit in itself - but, being the masochist that I am I decided to superdetail it with the etch as I'm going to have the cowl flaps open

Can anyone say "can of (fiddly) worms"?

So, I've added the ignition harness to the front of the engine, and now relaise that there are four, yes four, more fiddly ignition type harnesses on the rear of the engine mounting bulkead, plus a million other associated covers, cables, manifolds etc to fit - thats not even counting the detail in the wheel wells, gun bays, cockpit etc

I'll post some photos when I can, but strap yourselves in, this could be a bumpy ride!

I'll get there eventually - not sure it will be as good as yours though!

No I'm not having that Phil, I've seen your p/e work. I can tell you though that the p//e for the wheel wells fits like a glove as I've put it in my build today.

After spending the entire evening attempting to get the firewall in, I've succeeded in getting two of the three parts in separately - getting them in together was a nightmare, so I separated the parts and jemmied them in - lots of clamping, swearing, superglue, tape and, if I'm honest - brute force!

Oh, and I pinged most of the etch off the gun bay and the exhaust flaps too, so they all need to be reattached at some point.

It's a tricky kit, but I'm going to persevere - I think a lot of tidying up, sanding etc will clear up the over glueing issues - but it was the only way I could get it to join!

Good job I decided to open all the bays eh - why do I always decide to make my life more difficult than it needs to be!
