Lightningboy2000
My snails pace at the modellers desk has produced a few builds in 1/72 - my favoured scale. These all had slowly come together over the year, bit by bit as I like to go from one kit to another & also crack open a new box, but finally I sat down and took some pics in some rare spare time. This I know I should have done before Christmas i couldn't find an icon for slow coach! Anyway, this is what I had actually completed in 2011; Airfix Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa 1/72 conversion Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Then, in a moment of madness I converted the Airfix Mk.IX back to another Mk.IIa so that I could do another of the schemes from the Hornchurch Southern Expo sheet - there are a couple of mistakes which I chose to ignore. The spinner came from the Revell Mk.V & the MkIX spinner has gone back onto the MK.V which is more appropriate. The Revell spinner looks much more like the rounded Mk.IIa; Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr The Revell 1/72 MkIIc - OOB except for the canopy and a Quickboost prop & spinner and some tape & lens landing lights - also polished some wing tip lights; Hawker Hurricane IIc by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Hawker Hurricane IIc by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Hawker Hurricane IIc by Lightningboy2000, on Flickr Then the Italeri 1/72 RAF P-51D Mustang IV. I did get a bit confused about how the camo scheme was applied & couldn't find conclusive photographic evidence as to how it looked on the starboard wing. This is what I came up with, referenced to a site discussion about something called the "loop" scheme. I was guessing in the end & wasn't convinced by the scheme in the instructions. Anyone know what I mean regarding this? I also threw out the EY-T decals and masked them instead, as I thought the decals were an incorrect bluey color. I thought this looked a little better than the decals. Brush painted strait onto the model then masked up afterwards. I used some fine elastic thread on this, but now I don't think it's fine enough, so at the moment I'm using .20mm monofilament which looks more convincing. My very first attempt was on the Matchbox Walrus using black cotton thread & I ended up warping the top wing, but that's for another time! The re/released Revell/Matchbox Fury - I saw the thread about this when it was noted about what the correct colors were, so I also went with the blue!
