Can't you just see a display of the Happy H, the Invincible and two Type 22's all steaming south. I know it never really happened but you have to addmit it would look good. Both flat tops loaded with Sea Harriers, Crab Harriers, Sea Kings and the odd Wessex V. If I remmember the H had her ramp fitted during a refit after the Invincible came into service. As it happened it was just in time for 1982. Anyway thanks Phil for the heads up will be contacting WEM to pre-order from Dave and the team. Cheers the Woo To add grist to the mill, the intention is do Hermes in most, if not all of her incarnations. She will also appear as the 60s CV with the 984 radar and the appropriate air group and also as INS Viraat in due course. Other RN vessels are slated in for the future after the Spanish navy F-100 Bazan with Mistral being done in due course. Aircraft created for the carrier will also be available seperately so early model Sea Vixen and Buccaneers will be more easily obtainable. A very nice 350th - OH's first venture into this scale - should also hopefully be available before Xmas and it will fly the Russian ( the vessel was built post Soviet) flag!! Best wishes MarcusH

Paul Bradley
Great news - My uncle was on board during the Falklands and I've always wanted to do one. Any chance you'd scale it up to 350?
Iain Ogilvie
After seeing Ocean I may just have to get one of these - but a 1:350 one would be superb (alongside Ark Royal IV of course!). Iain

therollercoaster
If some enterprising manufacturer would make me a 1/350th Suez-era HMS Eagle I'd be a very happy man! I've got the Fujimi 1/700th kit in my stash but its a lot of work to correct and fit out right, I'm also lacking some tiny Wyverns for her airgroup, WEM used to make them but I've never been able to find any. Phil She left a 2 year refit in April 1981 with the ski ramp newly fitted - 800 Sqn joined her for the first time in May just off Torquay - I was that spotty Midshipman photographing them from the goofing deck ! Happy Days. FredT First one off the ramp (a Boscombe Down-based aircraft):

I joined 772 NAS at Portland and my first ship was the H all be it for a few weeks. I couldn't be certain but I am sure we went on as FOST support and HDS duties. Thursday war still brings me out in a cold shiver. I was a JAEM (M) sent on board as a spare set of hands from 772 all I really remember was the run ashore in Breast and chugging up and down the channel and south west approaches. Might be wrong on this but I think I was in 5K mess deck? Cheers the Woo

bootneck
Off the top of my head ,I think she had the Ski-jump added in the late 70`s,and was converted to a Commando carrier at the same time HMS Hermes was converted to a Commando Carrier in 1973. I was with 845 Sqn and we embarked on her for her first new commission. HMS Hermes received her new 'Ski-Jump' ramp in 1981, just in time for the Falklands conflict early the following year. Mike Here is a photo, taken in 1974, showing her deck markings when she was a 'pre-Harrier' LPH.

Julien
WOW I am not a ship modeller but I like this one. I remember back in 1982 when I was a Sea Cadet we visited the HMCS Athabaken at Rosyth, the Hermes was moored near it, man it was rusty after it had returned from down south. Always my Favourite carrier. I wish I had a decent camera back then Julien

colihamp
Do you think there is any chance this will appear in 1:350 anytime soon? I'd snap it up in an instant if it did. On a wider point, why so few (1) RN 1:350 carriers?

On a wider point, why so few (1) RN 1:350 carriers? Very unlikely I would think, the 350 market is expanding but there are still an awful lot of IJN and USN subjects to get through first, those are the big sellers.
