Mosquito PR IV

Recommended Posts

Having the day off, I have started my next project, a Tamiya Moquito PR IV, straight OOB.

I have finished the nacelles, with some weathering inside the wheel wells

Them moved onto the cockpit, where I have made up the Navigator's seat and the radio gear.

Comments and observations welcomed as always.

Done some more - finished the bomb bay ( though really it's a Camera bay ).

And the rear camera and camera port

Finished off the cockpit, with the port and starboard sides of the nose

Then joined the nose - beleive me there is a Mosquito under all the tape.

Done some more this morning - attached the wings and tailplane. The first tiny bits of filler have been used along the nose seam, and the wing roots.

Built up the canopy, and applied the decals to the inside. I have started masking off, ready for painting. Bombbay masked off with one of my bosses business cards ( he gave me about 1000 a few weeks ago, as they mispelled his name ! - really good for this kind of thing, just the right thickness ).

Now waiting for glue / filler / klear to dry, then onto the cockpit and masking the wheel wells.

Looks very nice, appart the seat belts.

May I suggest one thing?

You should have a try with some alu, or other metal foil.

Very easy to do, and can't be compared to the decals.

I do know what you mean about the belt decals, however I don't think I will bother this time. I am building this as a trail before I do another with a load of resin details.

I will tone them down a bit though to stop them being so bright.

Thanks for the comments, and suggestion.

More done this morning - finished off masking the cockpit, and fixed a couple of little nibbles I put in the leading edge by mistake:

Then pre-shaded the whole thing:

Then on with a coat of Xtracrylics PRU blue, I may be finally getting the hang of pre-shading, it looks ok on the tail photo:

Now waiting for paint to dry..

With it being the weekend I had the chance to do some more on the mosquito.

First up - slather with Promodeller Dark Dirt Wash:

then built up the undercarraige, giving the tyres a wash with the mud wash, and finally added the Props and spinners. The dark dirt wash has worked really well, as visible in the tail pic.

I'd agree with your assertion about you getting the hang of the pre-shading lark... you've come up with a subtle variation in tone, rather than a patchwork effect evident on some over-done examples. Good stuff!

Are you planning on putting in some exhaust staining on those nacelles? :)

Yes - I have all the doors to put on, then some exhaust staining, and a couple of fuel stains around the fillers on the upper wing then she's done.

Probably finish later today.
