Merry Xmas fellow modellers. May I present my latest in a long series of with of timber turned into vaguely aeroplane shaped items, this time it's an approximation of a Grumman Goose. Always liked the look of these little fellas, ever since watching Tales of the Gold Monkey back in the 80s, a fairly forgettable sub-Indiana Jones series that featured one of these planes. Happy new year to all, and keep modelling.

Well its been too long, so I felt the call of another boat model. This time a 1/33 scale crab trawler from Billings Boats, plank on frame construction with somewhat sketchy instructions and some parts missing, so a bit of artistic license was needed. A suitably challenging build, but very enjoyable. Thanks for viewing; comments always welcome.

Hi folks, it's been a bit of a weird summer, so I hope you are all keeping well. Here is a beech and mahogany Bf109 G-6 in 1/48 scale. Took me quite a while to do this one, I started full of enthusiasm then quickly lost my way as I got the underside of the nose wrong. It languished on the table in a pile of sawdust and despair for a few months while I gathered the momentum to finish it. For a plane that looks like it was designed only with straight edges it was surprisingly hard to get it to look correct; the machine gun blisters were also a right pain to get symmetrical. Anyway, I'm glad I persevered as I think it came out OK in the end. Thanks for viewing, hope you like it Nick

Another day, another GB! I had decided that this was the year I was going to build a resin and/or a vacform. However . . . Remodelling the mancave (new workbench and shelving!) has left no funds to obtain such a stash addition, but I did find in last Christmas's stocking these . . . When Granpa makes models, the grandkids buy "models" as gifts! They're definitely not injection, and I have cleared eligibility with with our Glorious Leader, so here goes. I'll try the "4x4 Off-Roader" first. There is no scale stated, and it seems the finished article will look like the offspring of a Suzuki Jimny and an early Toyota Landcruiser! The parts are in two sheets of ?3mm plywood. And that's what the instructions consist of! Note the enclosed sandpaper postage stamp! I'll probably make a start later today, and I'll introduce the other puzzles/models as I get to them. I think I'm going to leave this one largely unpainted . . . Good luck everybody. Hi folks, here is my latest lockdown project. The inspiration for this build came from a walk through the fields down by the coast. I passed an information board partly hidden in the undergrowth that told the tale of RAF Needs Oar Point, an advance landing ground used around the time of D-Day by a Typhoon squadron. So, here is my interpretation of a Typhoon 1b carved from Beech in approx 1/48 scale and finished in danish oil. Thanks for looking.

My kit of the Morgan Plus 8 is finished. The build story is here... 1. From the Side, bonnet and doors open: note the pistons in the engine: they move when the engine is running! 2. the dashboard: quite realistic. 3. From the Front 4. From the back: the "spare" wheel is the winder for the rubber band driven motor. 15 full turns gives the car enough power for about a 12 feet/3m run. 5. Underneath Construction uses no adhesive, no painting. The parts are laser cut in birch plywood, pushed out and assembled using either 2mm wooden dowels through pre-cut holes, or tabs and slots. Some lubrication is needed, and also some sanding as the there is no margin for rough edges, etc. Even so assembly needs strong fingers. Overall and excellent "kit", if not really a scale model. It looks like a Morgan, capturing all the essential features of the 2012 to 2018 Plus 8 bodied Aero chassis at the front, mated to a traditional 4 seater at the rear. No such car exists, so it is really a "what iff" representation. The UGears kits are fun, I plan another!!

This is a section of Britmodeller where I'm not normally to be found, but a Christmas present from a demented relative gives me no choice but to report the build of a VERY unusual model. At the beginning, this is my car.... Yes, it is a 2014 Morgan Plus 8, with a 4.8L V8. I was bought a model which is supposed to end up like this ..... It has more than a passing resemblance. Opening the box I found this... Almost 500 parts, laser cut from birch ply. A stunning example of a CAD design and efficient layout of components. The 46 page assembly instructions are clear, no adhesive is used, just wooden dowels and rubber bands. In the end a working model, with three speed transmission, powered by 16 elastic bands. The motor also drives the B8, with working pistons. Steering and front suspension also work. This is a YouTube video of the finish car. Will my model work as well? Time will tell! I'll post reports along the way!

Forgive the indulgence, I know this is primarily a plastic forum, but I do like getting to grips with a pile of wood and making something recognisably boatlike out of it. This build is of a Billing Boats "Nordkap", a North Sea trawler from the early '70s. I remember my Dad making this model about 30 years ago and me being impressed by it compared to my pile of airfix spitfires. Anyway, I have once again commandeered the dining room table as a workshop and started sawdust production in earnest. First things first, the keel. Add some ribs, then realise that while the keel was cut to the length from the instructions it is 4mm too short when measured against the deck. Measure twice cut once? Where's the fun in that? This is the third Billings kit I've done and is easily the best quality in terms of fittings and wood parts; not up to Amati standards, but pretty good. Luckily I had read up about the kit and had been warned that the instructions were more like outline suggestions than a detailed how-to guide. I was wondering about doing some weathering and making it look like a working vessel, but that was vetoed by the boss if I want to have it out on display, so shiny and shipshape it'll have to be.

Here is my recently finished north sea trawler Nordkap, a 1/50 scale wooden model from Billings Boats. It could have been made for R/C, but thats not really my thing so it is sitting on the windowsill in pride of place now. Hope you like it.

Hi all, This post is a first for me in many ways. It's my first time posting in the maritime section, it's my first boat build and its also my first attempt at carving. Please be gentle with me Its had a high gloss finish and I have still yet to add some rigging as well as a rudder. Ben.
