  1. Hi curiosity is getting me, just saw online a photo of Halifax IV HR75 and i am wondering if the modification to Mk IV was sort of to just to put 'lancaster style' engine pods to the aircraft and use four blade props cheers jerry
  2. This photo that I just discovered reminds me of the discussion we were having on the 1/48 Airfix kit's fairing; this photo is one of the best I have seen that shows the contours from front to back. Hope it helps. Mike https://www.pinterest.com/pin/382243087109418550/
  3. After a long time being silent, I thought i'd return and share a few images from a recent visit to the land of flat, Lincolnshire! I went there on a week break and for a slightly special occasion and visited the likes of East Kirkby and Newark(on-trent) air museum. I am a black and white person and always exploring types of editing. I really do hope you enjoy them! Firstly, Newark Air Museum: Avro vulcan XM594 from the left side rear: XM594 from the right side rear: XM594 from the wing on the right side: XF369 Vickers Varsity Bristol Hercules Engine showing its detail: ZA176 A Harrier FRS2 showing her tail (famously went missing): XP226 Fairey Gannet AEW.3 with the bumble bee/wasp marking on her nose cone spinner: XS417 English Electric lightning T.5 showing engine cone intake: XN964 Blackburn Buccaneer S.MK.1 from wing on left side: 61912507006 "71", MiG-27K 'Flogger' from the front: 024003607 “07” MiG-23ML (background) and 61912507006 "71" MiG-27K (foreground): Now East Kirkby: NX611, 'just-Jane's', pilot waves after another successful taxi run (with passengers onboard) NX611 closer image up to her nose showing the airwork of 'Just Jane' riding a bomb: (My Personal Favourite) NX611, Avro Lancaster B MK VII, 'Just Jane' and another relic; UW7644, a 1929 Bentley numbered '3'. the pair look gorgeous together, don't you think?:
  4. Hello everyone! I've been doing some 1/1 scale modeling on my home lately so my smaller scale projects are waiting, mostly Heinkel He 111 that I started.. :] But the problem is I can't keep my hands off of some plastic so I decided I should do a quick and simple build, and my build of choice is Stearman Kaydet by Revell, 1/72 scale.. :] Now, I need your help! What I would like to know is what kind of weathering, exhaust stains, mud splashes, paint chipping and general extended usage deterioration could one see on one of these planes back in the day when they were extensively used? I wouldn't mind overdoing it a little bit, just as long as it is in correct places.. Any photos you may have, suggestions, anything would be helpful! :] Also, many pictures on the internet show the different propeller color/material..I'm guessing the original used was wooden, and the later restorations feature metal propellers? Anyway, type in question is N2S, known as the "Yellow Peril", with the tail number/registration as shown on the picture below.. I'm not sure where and on what kind of runway this particular unit was used, maybe that could be a factor in deciding proper weathering too.. Any help is very appreciated! :]
  5. Does anyone have any good photos of the Spey burner can's for the British Phantoms? I'm specifically looking for any good photos that show the actuator assemblies inside the exhaust area. Thanks David
  6. This all started with a question about how to make a prop look like it's spinning. I mentioned that the technique I use is to make a brass bush and close fitting rod instead of the usual plastic shaft/poly cap kit arrangement and spin it with an aibrush to photograph. So here is my attempt at replicating a photo I took in Duxford in 2010 in model form. The only photoshoppery is to remove the aircraft from the original photo so I can use it as a backdrop, and about 100 pixels worth of editing on the far wingtip to remove the steel rod that mounts the model into the photo. Here's the original and heres my attempt at it:- My main cock-up is that the kit radiator cowls are moulded open and I only now spotted this. Also my panel line are far too heavy, otherwise quite pleased with it. It was an interesting exercise using old fashioned photography rather than photoshop. In true movie tradition, I've only 'half built the model' as well. I had to scratch most of the decals so I only bothered with the ones you can see. Thanks for looking Nick
  7. I wanted to document my build with some photos. I went out and bought a nice blue piece of card. However try as I might I am not getting a good qua;ity. There is a shadow, or the flash causes a problem, Having a lamp on or off makes little difference. I have a fairly decent camera a Minolta G500 which is 5mpx. Any quick suggestions woud be of help. I don't particiularly want to become a photographic expert, to take pics to share with you chaps. I read somewhere that I should have a top down stand. Investinmg in camera kit is not something I really want to do.
