  1. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Tamiya P-51D converted to F-6D, using Quickboost resin lenses (QB 72234). Painted with Gunze acrylics and Alclad II lacquers. Markings from Aeromaster, with special thanks to @Sky Keg who provided the decal sheet. Represents an aircraft of 10th TRG, 12th TRS, based in Italy in 1944/45. Wheels from CMK. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thank you very much for your interest. Greetings from Vienna! Roman
  2. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 AZ Model P-51C Mustang “Lucky Leaky II”, coded SX-M, of the 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group. She was one of the later production series with the 'dorsal fin' filet. Based in England, she crashed due to engine failure on May 2, 1945. I built straight from the box using AZ Model decals. These did not perform as good as usual, being brittle. Some pieces simply broke off the surface, most notably on the US Insignia on the right hand side of the fuselage. The model was painted in various shades of Alclad II over a gloss black basecoat. I found it pretty difficult to match the yellow spinner to the decal color; it took several attempts of mixing various yellow and orange paints to achieve the result. The black spinner stripes were masked with White Tamiya tape. Thank you for your interest in this topic. Best greetings from Vienna!
  3. I was checking the instructions earlier today, and I noticed that Revell tells me I should file the top of piece C3 on step 3, but it doesn´t say how much or for what, can someone who has already build this model tell me how much plastic should I remove from this piece and why? Same thing goes for step 20, I´m told to sand the bombracks, but for what? Here are the instructions from Scalemates: https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/2/6/9/239269-81-instructions.pdf Thanks in advance.
  4. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Tamiya P-51D, dressed as "Old Crow", flown by Clarence 'Bud' Anderson, 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, autumn 1944. The model was built from the box with the addition of 108 Gallon paper tanks (from a Tamiya P-47D) and decals for the tyre white walls (from an old Hasegawa decal sheet). Painted with Gunze Mr.Hobby acrylics (H52 Olive Drab/H53 Grey). Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. With best greetings from Vienna!
  5. Hi Guys Another little set that I have been playing with, although it is raised some fairly controversial discussion over on another site I am still thinking of proceeding with it. The controvesy is not with my parts, but the fact that these few parts do not fully make a late model 'D' Mustang. there are changes also required to the cockpit and a few other small items as well as some discussion about a slightly different canopy. I have taken a lot of the points on and for my sake I am not too fussed personally about the cockpit changes (instrumentation variation mainly) and I have studied the canopy carefully, mainly against the three canopies offered in the Tamiya kit. To be honest I think that the Revell canopy and that in the Tamiya kit that is offered to cater for the later 'D' Mustangs is very close, and are almost 100% interchangeable. So before I finalise a few minor tweaks on the pattern and make production moulds I would like to get a an idea if you guys would be interested at all. Prices are estimated as follows 4 parts of resin new tail parts and new elevators £7.50, shipping in UK £2.50, shipping elsewhere in the world £4.50. NOTE as can bee seen these are an exact replica of the kit parts, so are thin shells, and the kit tail wheel assembly fits as per the kit was designed. AND YES I KNOW Revell will release an updated kit at some time so this is not a set for the long term future, but does my needs until then. Here are some pictures parts sprayed silver one on left has a slight wash just to show detail is close to the Revell detail
  6. Hello, this is a model I finished last year around october. Hasegawa rebox, nice kit and good decals, tried not to overdo the weathering.
  7. For the conversion from D-model to C-model, I had to modify the cockpit structure. While I was at it, I remade the bulkheads to look more accurate. Look closely at the pictures and you can see the flanges. Check out the multiple methods I tried to make these parts and the one that ultimately succeeded at http://www.highflyingmodels.com
  8. Ok to prove I’m completely and utterly crazy.....I just couldn’t help myself! The urge to build this has just too great and seeing the other racers and with the delays in starting the Cavalier.......... Actually to say I’ve had the urge to build this is an understatement, have been playing with it regularly and now I’ve finish my 3/1 roster I have the time to really think about it...now with this STGB the perfect opportunity! I’ll make no promises at this stage that I’ll finish it in time though! This should for the most part be a fairly simple build as the quality of the moulding is just first class, way better than most plastic stuff even!! Trail fits have shown that there will be very little filler required and everything just fits...no trimming even!! The biggest part of the build will be the paint job and finish, which I must say is a bit daunting! Enamels and Acrylics I don’t think will cut it for this, weapon of choice for painting will be Lacquer and probably automotive! I use to use it a lot with 1/24 & 1/12 car models and you could get mirror finishes quite easily. Plus being resin the lacquer won’t eat the plastic....actually if you’re really careful and light with the spraying you can apply lacquer straight to plastic without dramas.......just very light couple of coats first. The only issue I have with the model is that the tail wheel is missing...spares box of aftermarket for that! This won’t be in a rush to build this and if I don’t finish in time it’ll go into the WIP thread. Well here we go!
  9. Hello there guys. So as promised in my new member post heres the photos of my builds too date, all but one are airfix and the stuka tank buster is revell. Enjoy.
