Hi guys I have another conversion build to start that goes along side my brawn build rather nicely. I like many others have really struggled to get a good chrome effect while making fujimis mclaren mp4/27 so I had given up on it after about a year of trial and error, until now!! After looking fully through pattos place list from a-z (it took forever) I have come across a few really interesting builds I am going to do over the next year, while searching the m section I came across the merc f1 cars and started looking at the completeness and quality of the lettering (I've been told if they look good on the sample they normally will be good in the flesh) the W04 merc from 2013 looked to be the best of the f1 cars from 2010-2016 so I then started looking for a suitable donor kit and the merc and mclaren mp4/27 are pretty close as you can see below in a couple of layered pictures The biggest problem is the nose on the Mercedes is alot higher and the rear wing endplates are different but nothing that can't be changed with a little work. So without much of a plan I started cutting into my old fujimi mp4/27 to change the height of the nose mounting point as from the most forward part of the cockpit to the nose mounts on the merc are a straight line whereas the mclaren dips just before the mounts. I then had a bit of a brainwave and I saw in my box of old cars there was a 2013 ferrari which I can use the nose cone and possibly whole front wing as the Mercedes is alot more complex than the mclaren. I have cut the wing mounts off as they are really wrong and I will be making my own The front wing of the 2013 ferrari has alot more planes than the 2012 mclaren and looks much closer to the 2013 Mercedes. The endplates will need modifications as will the 2 most upper planes on the wing These are my new front wing mounts made from 2mm thick plastic cars. The one on the left is almost done If you imagine the next picture with all the parts in silver then you will see how close it is to the mid to late season Mercedes now And finally a quick mock up of all the main parts modded so far Oh and before I forget I have some merc f1 colour matched paint from hiroboy for a correct shade of silver More soon Shaun
