G'Day Folks, Newbie (only to this esteemed mob, sadly quite the opposite to the human race...) here, so I'd better be nice and introduce myself. I'll not take it as a support group, so I'm not admitting to any addiction. 🤨 (yet) Like many, started as a kid, probably around age 10 and kept at it until teenage years created other lines of activity and interest, Returned about 8 years ago, enjoying the therapy of concentrating on something I wanted to do rather than what every one else wanted me to do for them. It's kinda worked. Faffed around between 1:48 planes and 1:35 armour and tried a few things. Came up with an idea that a theme was probably a better way to go. It limits the number of "...Oh, gotta have one of those..." (I hope.) Decided themes would be: World War II RAAF 1:48 aircraft Italian Campaign Commonwealth subjects (A Veh, B veh, figures) Italian Campaign Wehrmacht subjects (A Veh, B Veh, figures) I have fallen in to the rabbit hole of You Tube. The content being produced by some of the fellows there is superb. It is a fantastic way of learning and seeing a standard to aspire to. I'm so glad this advancement has become available throughout my life. It has helped both my hobbies to no end. Well, enough of me. Hi everyone, based in West Wales and into armour primarily, moved up the scales from 1/100 wargaming through 1/56 to 1/35. Had 2 tanks (Sherman ans Stuart) in the SRY charity build for We Have Ways Fest back in September but still very much in the learning stage.

Hello,fellow modelmakers, I am a young modelmaker from India,ever since i was 9 or 8 i have always been interested in modelmaking,I started out this childhood Hobby with an airfix 1/72 harrier gr3,And ever since then i have been in love with model kits, I have Always wanted to share my interests,but Nobody In My country seems to Take notice,And so after lurking here for a while, i finally decided to join.I am currently 18 doing my design course, in bangalore. My favourite types of aircraft to build are ww2 prop planes and The anime i love to watch is One piece,as evident by my username. Most of my models are brush painted since i can't afford an airbrush. Hi all and here's my first 1/35 Armour kit since I was teenager! 😬 We had an M-18 Hellcat 'buddy build' over on the IPMS Ireland forum through the Christmas holidays - and while I don't normally build AFVs, I decided to give it a go. IPMS_Ireland_Jan_2023_1 (5) by IPMS Irl Photo, on Flickr These are the very nice builds of my friends in the club...and my effort. Mine was the AFV Club Kit and is OOB except for stowage from Value Gear (thanks Pat) and spare barrel (thanks Mick). The mantlet cover was homemade from tissue and white glue. The photos wash out a lot of the weathering and I really learned a lot about building in this scale. Look forward to building some more 1/35 armour in the future - I enjoyed trying something different. After watching a part work HMS victory take shape under the fine hand of my stepfather over the last 10 years or so, and my own dalliances with Railway Modelling, and a completed but not spectacular HMS Dreadnought, I felt that it was finally time for me to try for the age of sail. I have decided to build a 1/96 Revell Cuttysark. I have a fairly well stocked plastic modelling workbench as a result of my railway modelling experience, but that’s it. I’ve never attempted a model of this size and scale before. While I am not focused on 100% fidelity, I would like to keep a level of prototypical accuracy. I am hoping to find any advice for the early stages of building this kit – such as jigs, templates, workholding, or any essential supplies or aftermarket components (i see there are decks, blocks and sails). Does anyone have any advice? ps. I have ordered the books by Longridge!

Hi everyone. Thought i'd say hi and explain why i'm here. I work from home a lot (even before COVID) and I get to watch/listen to a lot of programs etc whilst working. Recently i'd been watching Adam Savage's Tested on YouTube and watched quite a few of his modelling videos which has given me the itch to try and get in to modelling. I don't know if i'm going to be any good or if i'll even stick with it but I really want to try it. Needless to say I have zero experience. I'm 47 now and I did make a couple of model kits when I was a child but that's about it. So if anyone can suggest some basic equipment like brushes, paints or whatever else, to get me started and maybe good place to get my first model from, it would be appreciated. I'm happy to spend a little money on gear to start with, but until I get the bug I don't want to go all out. In advance, i'd just like to say thank you and appreciate all your help and advice Thanks guys. Dave

Hello to all, Now I am retired I have recently returned to modelling. In preparation for retirement I prepared myself a stash of 125 mainly 1/72 aircraft kit's of all eras and manufacturer and age of kit, they all await their fate over the coming years. I started and completed 6 of the Airfix Spitfire series which I will soon post in the Ready For Inspection thread, I thought it would be a good idea to get my hands and eyes back in on a few modern kit's, oh how my fingers have got fatter over the years! and my eyesight poorer, or have the aircraft shrunk!!!! maybe when I can get on with some of the larger twin and 4 engine kits they will be kinder to me. I have a small selection of 1/72 resin and vacu-form which ive never attempted before, they should be fun when I get around to them! I intend most of them to be OOTB builds, only buying Decals where I need them due to yellowing of existing ones. Displaying of completed models is going to be an issue, I am sure many of us have that problem, I have a 1/72 'Monogram' 'Peacemaker which I took a peak in the box at the other day, that alone if I completed that it would fill my snug! Question: Which of the threads here can we use to ask for help and advice? Ill be needing it. Regards Steve

Evening all! Having recently decided on revisiting a childhood pastime, I've found that this time around, I've become quite engrossed in this model building lark (read; thought I'd give it another bash, I can't have gotten much worse). My experience and finesse regarding scale models is on par with that of the average chimp, and my knowledge of aircraft/armour even more limited! That said; an interest exists, largely founded on a few fond childhood memories around Middle Wallop, Dishforth and a quick whizz around in some variant of Cessna! (Must be around 30 years ago now) These days I'm boots firmly on the ground, and ever-growing regrets of choosing green over blue help me to cry myself to sleep! Anyway, just thought I'd say hello and although read into a fair bit of info on here already, dare say I'll soon be tapping you all up for some info, tips, advice, knowledge and experience before too long! 'til then... TTFN!

Hello fellow modellers, I started modeling about four years ago. Now that the children are slowly leaving home, I have time again for my beloved hobby. Since last year my models are also shown in the model building magazine: Model Aircraft Monthly. Hopefully that will happen again this year. My preference is for jet aircraft from the sixties to the present, in the scale 1/48. My last model built was a British Phantom FGR Mk.2 from the former Wildenrath Air Force Base in Germany. This was a Revell kit, but actually a Hasegawa rebox. Iam currently working on an F-14A Tomcat from Tamiya, which is really a shake and bake kit. Hi all, Greetings from Bury, Manchester, UK. I came across this group whilst looking for a particular model, so I thought I would join and bore you all to death with this story! Many years ago when I was a young lad (about 15) i went and bought from the hobby shop a FROG Dennis Ambulance kit. This I took home and started to build. Howevr my modelling skills in those days were not as good as today and the kit never got finished and eventually it was thrown out. On leaving school, I worked in a few retail shops and ,as a volunteer, joined St.John Ambulance. This interested me so much that in 1970 ( I was 20)I applied for and was accepted into Lancashire Ambulance Service. And apart from a short break that is the career I followed to my retirement at 65. Unfortunately I could not work any longer due to problems with my back and feet caused by the lifting at work. Now for years I kept looking at irregular periods for another FROG Dennis Ambulance kit, always missing out when one came up for sale. Last Tuesday (12th) was my 70th Birthday and a Dennis Kit was being auctioned on eBay and my wife said to bid on it and she would buy it for my 70th Birthday. So I bid on it and was beaten at the last minute by a higher offer. I think it sold for £340. Needless to say I was very disappointed. What a fabulous birthday gift it would have been. And of course after every one is sold, there a fewer than ever of them and the price goes up. Still I keep on looking. You never know! Now an inquiry. I have tried researching this type of Dennis ambulance on the internet but so far I have been unable to find any Dennis ambulance that looks like the FROG model. There are lots of Dennis ambulance images, but all have very small radiator grilles set low down and look nothing like the FROG model with the large chrome grill. I don't know where FROG got the design from for the kit so if anyone can point me in the direction of an image of a Dennis ambulance as per FROG design I would be very grateful. Regards to everybody. Evening all 😎 Just thought I'd introduce myself - I was going to say I'm new around here, but actually it turns out I registered on this forum back in 2015 . . . just haven't been a very active poster 🤐 I'm coming back to modelling after a very long break (35+ years to be precise, although I did half complete a few things along the way) , you know how it is, girls, motorbikes, children, jobs, houses, etc. all get in the way (and not necessarily in that order) My passion is RNAS/FAA aircraft, and preferably in the larger scales, eg 1:48 or 1:32 I've been slowly building up a stash of models and reference materials over the last 10 years or so, but every time I thought I was just about ready to put glue to plastic, something came along and got in the way, however with this enforced lockdown I now have no excuse. Well that's not entirely true as I run the communications team for our company and we've been VERY busy of late, although that seems to be slowing down and we now seem to be settling in for the long haul. The other fly in the ointment is that I'm in the process of moving out of London to a quieter place in the country, so put all my stuff into storage (elderly parents loft) and now can't get at it . So I'm now considerably poorer as I've had to go out and start from scratch in terms of paint, tools, and a couple of models, etc. I'm looking to get into using an airbrush for the first time, so may turn up asking basic questions in other sections - I have a compressor that a bought a while back that came with 2 free airbrushes, so shortly I'll find out how good they are/aren't My first kit to ease me back into the flow of things will be a 1:48 Airfix Seafire F.XVII 😀 However I'm also a sucker for punishment, so I'm also doing a Magna Models 1:72 Fairey Firefly T.2 🤔 Hope to see you around Simon

Hello Everyone, My name is Philip and I love Aeroplanes, they have always been my passion in life which is why eight years ago I learnt to fly real ones. Over Chrismas last year, I decided it would be fun to build a model Spitfire, so whilst learning from youtube videos and reading the forums on this site I completed my first model kit of a Mk.Vb. I was so pleased with my first attempt and enjoyed the process so much that I have built a few more since including a P-51, a De Havilland Mosquito and a Bf109. I find myself visiting Britmodeller quite often for research on aircraft and modelling techniques, so thought it would be only polite for me to signup, say hello and introduce myself. Hi, First of all, I'm mostly build 1/72 Aircraft.. and so far only had finished 1 ship model (Academy 1/800 USS Kitty Hawk) which I built for a friend, and a 1/700 Oliver Hazard Perry frigate. But, due to my big mouth saying "I won't buy that one kit unless you got the PE set for it" to my LHS owner.. Now, I have a Dragon 1/700 HMS Illustrious in my stash. And, it turned out that my LHS also have -not just one - but both WEM 1/700 Invincible Class Support Carrier (PE 716), and the WEM 1/700 Invincible Class Superset (PE 742). Which PE set should I choose? FYI, the kit is the Premium Edition.. the one which include generic PE, EH-101 Merlin and Harried Gr.8. And, while we're at it.. Any recommended color/shade for the ship itself? Many, many thanks.. Mario Indonesia

This is my first ‘yearbook’ - so please be gentle. 2017 got off to a slow start for me as I was far too busy asking you all annoying questions, but getting some great answers along the way. The first part of the year was in reality spent acquiring ‘tools and equipment’ before I could actually build anything. So it was the end of May before I started and finished my first 'project'. This is the 1/48 Airfix MWD Utility truck – complete with a milliput base. It was my first go with an airbrush and my first attempt at weathering too – so very much a ‘work in progress’ – but it was fun to build. The slightly random theme was down to the fact that I had various decals lying around – the result – an RAF Ambulance. Oh it was my first making a plinth too... Next up in July was the 1/48 Airfix Hurricane MKI. I was debating whether to go ‘wheels up’ or ‘wheels down’ at the time and also how to deal with moving propellers. This is the result and again I made a little stand for it – but forgot to put the year on the end of the quote… By the end of July I felt I ‘was on a roll’ and disaster from over confidence was just around the corner. I made the mistake of ‘experimenting’ with a Sharpie to try and create panel lines on a 1/48 Messerschmitt 109E. This experiment turned into my first WIP – and though the result was a bit of a disaster – I really enjoyed the interaction with other forum folk and hey – I don’t mind ‘learning in public’. If you fancy a laugh then the WIP is here – all good fun… I had a couple of weeks off work in late August and I’d enjoyed my first ‘Emil’ so much – I decided to do a ‘matching pair’. If one 109 is fun then two is even better. I put a lot of ‘research’ into the build and this was the first ‘project’ I finished that I was really happy with – whatever happy is. ...and here is the WIP for these lovely girls - 'Grace' and 'Fortuna'... During September and October I went through a bit of a ‘strange patch’ – where I just couldn’t ‘get going’ with anything. But with a bit of encouragement from some good folk on here I was back on ‘track’ by the end of October with my first ‘proper AFV’ build. I say ‘proper’ in the loosest of terms, as I went 1/72 – rather than the 1/35 ‘standard’ and built the PLASTIC SOLDIER COMPANY M5 halftrack –simply because you get 3 in a box. The WIP thread is here and again it was a new experience to try filters and weathering. I can’t get my head round filters yet – but I love the Flory washes for creating a bit of ‘mud and dust’. As my mojo was fully restored by starting the halftrack and I was falling in love with 1/72 stuff I bagged a 1/72 Airfix Spitfire MKIA and worked on this at the same time. I don’t know how a 36 piece kit can turn into an eleven page WIP – but it did – thanks to so much input from fellow members ‘egging me on’. Again a 1/72 aircraft was a first – I haven’t done one that small since I was a kid. My final project of the year is still on the bench - but I'm almost there - so please feel free to cheer me along - Here is the WIP… So, looking back I have had quite a busy year. I won’t win any competitions anytime soon – but I have had an awful lot of fun. So thanks for all the support everyone and I hope you have a super festive season and a brilliant 2018. Greetings all, I apparently signed up for these forums quite some time ago and either didn't become active or only briefly participated. Either way I was on the lookout for a new social medium platform among like minded mates and one such fellow, called Gorby here, advised me to check in. Thus I hope this is the one for me. I am a Yank but don't let that ward you off, beyond the pond, there are a lot of we mere modellers that would rather focus on our polystyrene than the rubbish on television.

Hi world - This is my second restart at modeling - I picked up the paint and glue 4 years ago after last making a kit aged about 13 ( which was at the end of the '80's). I built a few 1:72 things, then a baby came along, and I stopped. That was 2 years ago, and I'm making another go of it. I've changed my focus to 1:48 kits, and probably 1950's and 60's jets, simply because I love the shape of them. My user name is a tribute to my other love - jazz. I am not a long dead Egyptian king. This forum is a big inspiration to me, and its great to finally be involved. James.

This is actually from last year – before I joined up here – but I thought it might be nice to share this – so I took some pictures today – in between the showers. I always wanted to build one of these as a kid – but we just didn’t have the money for BIG KITS – so it was always the bagged up 1/72’s from the local newsagents – great days though. Anyway enough of the sob stories – I got a couple of these kits last year and I have to say I was very dismayed with the quality – having paid full price. But you can’t shatter a little boys dreams – so I picked the best bits from both kits to build one good one. Having looked at everyone else’s presentations on the internet (before finding Brit modeller) I knew mine would hardly be a masterpiece – but I wanted to make one – and make it a little different – so I performed some minor surgery on the decals – turning a ‘B’ into ‘P’ and then found some suitable numbers to get the right serial number to re-create this… Last year I hadn’t even considered buying an airbrush – but I had progressed as far as rattle cans – a big step at the time as I remember. Everything is ‘out of the box’, as I found out pretty quickly – no one is interested in making after-market parts for these old kits. It was a horror to build and I even considered a ‘post crash’ version at times – but here she is – ‘pre crash’. …and here she sits on the desk – she makes me smile every time I see her – a childhood dream fulfilled. I used to do a lot of plastic models younger but and after a break of many many years, I am trying to get back at it. My level would be average-low....just doing it for fun really. Hoping to get and also maybe give some advice sometimes

Hey guys! Hope you're all well. Just started on here, although having watched for sometime. I'm currently a student, picking the hobby back up from my first couple airfix kits from when I was 7 or 8. Being a fair bit more engaged in it this time round. I plan to capture the process of my builds on camera. Uploading summaries on here and full builds onto Youtube. I find it helps me to plan the build more logically and efficiently if I'm planning the video of it simultaneously, it also just helps me avoid mistakes. I've uploaded a summary of a build of an SU-2 I recently completed here... with a couple shots of a near finished bird. I mostly like interwar through to cold war but I do dabble in anything with wings, primarily in 1/72 and 1/48. Enough rambling, hope to speak to many of you soon! Next couple of recorded builds in order of progression, so since that SU-2, I have a FW-190D9 in 1/72 by Tamiya awaiting nought but an antenna then it's complete, a Harrier GR1 in 1/72 by Airfix who's decals I'm tweaking to be from No.1 Squadron based in Norway, and I just got done wiping my SD card to start a MiG 21Bis in 1/72 by Zvezda bright and early tomorrow (If I'm even awake by noon it'll be a miracle. It's christmas break and I'm a student ok) As I said previously with the builds, I'll summarise on here and probably upload the full video to youtube (My account, very imaginatively named MURRODELS Currently empty but editing takes time, time I rather spend sticking plastic together (so I do, far more than I should) Enough rambling, hope to speak to many of you soon!
