Okay, for my next project I am moving to another continent. Asia this time. The time is 1943/1944, the squadron is 27 and the pilot is David Innes.
Of course, as always before with me it all came after reading a book. Beaufighters over Burma. David flew many dangerous ground attack missions, mainly hunting Japanese river traffic on the Irrawaddy and rail traffic in Burma. The book has pictures of his Beafighters and it looks like a mix of MkIs and MkVI's. Surprisingly quite a few of them show standard filters and flat tailplanes, perhaps UK beaufighters before "tropical" conversion by fitting new filters?
I thought, however, that that was done in Egypt after a Trans African ferry flight from Tokaradi to Suez.
Some Beaus show even sporting the red European roundels not just the the white and blue "asian" ones. Perhaps they did not have time to paint out the "redballs" yet?
Author mentions several machines he flew by serial and letter but I have no reference as to Little Bo Beep pictured here. It looks like a hedgehog exhaust and in this case tropical air filter?
Did anybody ever come across decals for that or am I destined to just have to mask and freehand this one?
I am not too worried about the conversion as it is basically a cone with a small flange and can be fashioned from multiple media with a clear lens up front, but if you know of any conversions I would welcome that input here.
