  1. The P-38 in 1/48 scale will be my next project. For this I will use the Eduard kits https://www.eduard.com/Eduard/Plastic-kits/Limited-edition/Aircraft/1-48/Pacific-Lightnings-1-48.html https://www.eduard.com/Eduard/Plastic-kits/Limited-edition/Aircraft/1-48/P-38F-G-H-Early-Lightnings-1-48.html Together with this kits I use https://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/ref/kag/book_kag_15033.shtml My intention is to build the P-38 P-38G, 42-2197, 80 FS/8 FG, 3, Dobodura, New Guinea, 1943/44, 'Nulli Secundus / X-Virgin' P-38L, 44-26176, 36 FS/8 FG, A, le Shima, 1945, 'Vagrant Virgin' I will start on Monday. Happy modelling
  2. Hallo Here I represent you the second P-38 Lightning out of a series of 5 aircraft. P-38G-15LO, 43-2475, 48th FS/14th FG El Bathan, Thunesia, second half of June 1943, Babe, flown by Edgar L. Yarberry The kit is from Eduard. In my WIP I described all the working steps, my decisions and all shortcomings in every detail. I will here only explain my paint job and final assembly. The BIG difference are decals and stencils. Here I used EXITO Decals of superb quality. Also from Hobby Decal the dry transfers. During my build I improved some steps from my first P-38. Specially the cockpit. The worst thing like last time is the Revi installation. This time I failed, the armor glass is in position. The painting was done with a mixture of OD 1 from Gunze C12 and some brown C79. Highly diluted of course. The neutral grey also, as C13. The shading in brighter and darker shades with white or yellow for OD, for neutral grey with white and darker with some black added. Again all highly diluted. The weathering I did with salt. In detail explained in WIP. At the very finish I used black highly diluted as overspray. So have a look: Happy modelling
  3. Hi All, It's January, so it must be time for a heavy! This time last year I completed my Lancaster B.II, so I figured it was about time I got another 4 engine beast on the go. Italeri's Stirling is oft-built on this site, and it is well-known for its cavernous panel lines. I actually started this kit about 4 years ago, so it's a long-time shelf-sitter - the WIP is a way of motivating myself to get on with it. Here's the box art: And here's where the build is at the moment, and probably the reason it stalled: It's not that clear from the photo, but the interior grey green is a most peculiar hue of my own concoction, before I settled on my 'go to' IGG, which is Vallejo 71.305. So I'm going to start it again, and do it properly this time! When I first started the kit I'd intended to complete it as the boxart scheme, 'McRobert's Reply', but the boxing also has decals included to complete as BF372 of 149 Sqn RAF, based at RAF Mildenhall in 1942. This aircraft was flown by RAAF Flt Sgt (later P/O) Rawden 'Roy' Middleton VC. On 28th November 1942 his aircraft was badly damaged on a raid to the Fiat aircraft works at Turin. Despite suffering multiple grievous injuries, including the loss of his right eye, Middleton managed to complete a 4 hour flight to bring the stricken aircraft back to the English coast. Five of his seven crew then baled out (the front gunner and flight engineer remained aboard to try and persuade Middleton to carry out a forced landing). Following his refusal to do so, the remaining crew baled out but did not survive the night in the English Channel. Middleton stayed with the aircraft, which ditched into the Channel, his body not washing ashore until February 1943. Middleton was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross and promoted to Pilot Officer. Here's a picture of Middleton during his flying training: And here's the scheme as presented: I feel compelled to complete this scheme now it has an RAAF connection. Now I know that this aircraft has been modelled before, including this lovely 1:48 Sanger vac form by @woody37: I will be delighted if mine turns out half as well as this, but I'm not holding my breath! At this stage it will be mostly OOB, albeit with the addition of an Eduard mask set. I'll see how I go with the infamous panel lines - watch this space! I have not yet found any photos of BF372, but there are a number of other 149 Sqn aircraft which are relatively well photographed. Wish me luck! Thanks for looking, Roger

  6. Hallo This kit is from Dora Wings and represents a P-47C in 1/48 from the early operational days. The kit and his features are all described in my WIP here. This kit is a short run kit, but for this it was a joy! This particular aircraft was piloted from Kenneth Peterson from the 363rd FS in the 4th FG. The serial was 41-6539. Have a look and enjoy: Happy modelling
  7. Hallo This kit is from Tamiya and represents a P-47D in 1/48 from the mid operational days. The kit and his features are all described in my WIP here. This kit was a joy to build. This particular aircraft was piloted from Fred Christensen from the 62th FS in the 56th FG. The serial was 42-26628. Have a look and enjoy: Happy modelling
  8. Hallo This kit is from Tamiya and represents a P-47M in 1/48 from the late operational days. The kit and his features are all described in my WIP here. This kit was a joy to build! This particular aircraft was piloted from Leo Butiste from the 62nd FS in the 56th FG. The serial was 44-1199. Have a look and enjoy: Happy modelling
  9. Hallo This kit is from Tamiya and represents a P-47D in 1/48 from the early operational days. The kit and his features are all described in my WIP here. This kit was a joy to build. This particular aircraft was piloted from Howard Curran from the 510th FS in the 405th FG. The serial was 42-26249. It was used in ground operations. Have a look and enjoy: Happy modelling
  10. Hallo This kit is from MiniArt and represents a P-47D in 1/48 from the mid operational days. The kit and his features are all described in my WIP here. This kit was the most difficult one to build! Not the aircraft was the problem, the kit design was the problem! This particular aircraft was piloted from Ben Mayo from the 82nd FS in the 78th FG. The serial was 42-26671. Have a look and enjoy: Happy modelling
  11. So...... time for a much needed Tamiya build. After the Bordermodel Stug i want to start a new diorama with some Tamiya builds and some leftover bots and pieces from other kits. i think these 2 models will make an excellent scene. I still have some resin figures in the stash but i also ordered some new ones: I'm thinking France early 1940 or Operation Barbarossa. The kits itself look really good for their age. The krupp got new molds in 2003 i think and there is an excellent driver figure in there. Anyhow, i think these models are just what i need, simple oob, tamiya fit. So let's crack on shall we? Cheers guys 🍻🍻🍻
  12. Hallo My basic question is concerned to the surface of the P-47. We know, that two basic options are there. Olive Drap or metal. To the metal option: Are there parts of the wings like on the P-51 which are covered with lacquer? Is the wing surface realy pure metal or are some parts grinded and filled with puty and again grinded to get a lacquer surface? If it is so, does anyone have a drawing according to it? Thanks in forward! Happy modelling
  13. Good night guys! Has anyone worked with Amusing Hobby's decals? I want to know if they can slide easily into position, or if they stick as soon as they hit the surface (the latter issue has happened with Eduard and ICM decals). Thanks!
  14. Hi guys! I plan (if everything goes smoothly) on getting Tamiya's He 219A-7. Box schemes are fairly dull, black over light blue or the latter colour covering the entire aircraft. Since the He 219, for me, borders Luft 46, I would like to get some inspiration for a whiffer camouflage. I was thinking on RLM 02 on the lower surfaces, making the aircraft some sort of prototype, with the top sides painted in the regular splinter pattern of RLM 74 and 75 the Bf 110 have. Another idea was of a splinter of RLM 81 and 82 over 76. I also though on painting the wings in a combination of RLM 76 with 75 and, last but not list, a camou of RLM 77 and 81. However, if any of you have a website where I can input the airframe and colours so I can make my own mixes, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!
  15. Hello all. I made this Comet about 2-3 years ago when i was about 12 despite the fact it looks mediocre at best i needed something to post so I could say Happy new year Happy new Year Cheers Enes

  17. Hallo Question: At the upper end of the cylinder is a part looking like a handhold. Still under the deflection blade. What is this part for? Question: The ignition wiring from the central harness outgping is this for each cylinder or divides it later on after some radial distance? Question: The front spark plug and the rear one: How is the rear plug wired? I have many photos, but this questions still exist. Maybe you know! Happy modelling
  18. Hallo I want to ask if anybody has some pictures of FW-190 aircraft used in Sturmstaffeln. I am going to build next year many of them. In all I have 2 A-6 kits and 4 A-8 kits. 5 kits from Eduard, one from Hasegawa. The decals will be from Eagle Calls. Code letters from Fantasy Printshop. Aftermarket products I do have a lot. 2 boxes! However, some basic questions for this build are solved. One was concerning the gear. This question is solved. Anyone who has interest, please read it: Most questions are solved by the book. My real concern is the fuselage section of the MG 131 which were removed due to additional armor. So, any sketch or photo of the cleaned up area rear of the engine is welcomed. Also detail shots of the additional armor. Or MK 108 installation on the outer wing. Happy modelling
  19. Folks, like bus, wait for ages and two come together. I've been on leave this week so I've had a chance to complete one that I had started and was just waiting for a chance to finish. I bought it last year when it was released if nothing else to encourage Tamiya to do more British vehicles. It is virtually OOB, except I couldn't help myself and replace the bar handles with brass wire and add some texture to the turret and the front armour plate. One thing I did do was pair down the birdcage sight as it was chunky. As expected for Tamiya, it assembled like a dream with minimal seam lines and zero flash. My only criticism is, unlike the Bronco offering, you can only do a WW2 version. It stayed in British service until 1960 in Hong Kong and foreign service until the 80's. Bronco includes the fish tail exhaust and the smoke dischargers for a Type B. Bronco also includes working tracks, but I must admit the link and length tracks Tamiya include are the best fitting I've ever come across. They were the perfect length. Paint is Mig SCC15, gloss coat Quick Shine, Vallejo matt coat, oil paint and terps pin wash, and Mig pigments.
  20. Post me your basic questions here and we will chat about them!
  21. Hallo After reading literature about P-38 and P-47 one question results: If you have a fuselage installed gun, which shoots through the propeller arc. How much does the synchronisation reduce the amount of shots? Take German MG of the late or early 109s or 190s. In percrntage, how much was the reductipn in firepower shopting through the arc, in opposition to a wing mounted gun which could fire full? Since there is a reduction, you stay a longer time in the opponents line of fire! Happy modelling
  22. Halllo My question concerning carpurator: As far as I am informed, the carpurator of the Zero was the only one, which was operative in all positions of the flying envelope. Is this correct? I know something about the German injection system too. The RAF had to handle it with limitations of the FE. How about American systems? Copy or own developement? But the question still alive is the lubrication system on the Zero overalm the FE! Can you have proper answers to this question? Happy modelling
  23. Hallo Since it is a new adventure for me to build a series of these fighter I want to ask if anyone has experience with the Tamiya kits. As well bubletop as well racorback. I have Eduard stuff to add. The instruction for the MinArt kit is a joy by itself! I always dreamed of. As far as I can read the instruction, they are quite straight forward. I want to explore weathering on this models. All sort of. Spraying, with oil, pencil anf brush. Has anyone done this? Or about any issues of the Tamiya kits to report? Any informationen are welcome. Happy modelling
  24. Hallo This thread will become a chronology about the FW 190 A-6 and A-8. Most kits from Eduard. The decals will be from Eagle Calls. Code letters from Fantasy Printshop. In summery there will be 4 aircraft A-8 and two A-6. https://www.1001hobbies.de/decals-fuer-flugzeuge/9093-eagle-cal-eag48022-decal-focke-wulf-fw-190a-8-rs-ii-jg4-sturm-4-.html https://www.1001hobbies.de/decals-fuer-flugzeuge/9085-eagle-cal-eag48007-decal-focke-wulf-fw-190a-sturmjager-pt-1-4-white-.html Aftermarket products I do have a lot. 2 boxes! One version will be a A-5 converted to a G-3. In US service! How accurate the conversion will become, I do not know yet. https://www.pinterest.at/pin/57561701470917414/ One will be a D-9 from Eduard and one Ta-152 from Zoukei Mura. All in scale 1/48. However, some basic questions for this build are solved. One was concerning the gear. The others of the Sturmstaffel are solved due to the book: https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=581894545&rlz=1C1SXXQ_deAT915AT915&hl=de&q=fw-190+sturmstaffel+1+book&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiy-Z6h-cCCAxWbhf0HHdJJBzMQ0pQJegQIDRAB&biw=1920&bih=931&dpr=1#imgrc=xN0-fmKlfiTnIM&imgdii=3363IQ7Cmdn-RM So far for today. The building will start at Christmas or in 2024 after New Year! Happy modelling
  25. Recently I looked at how many unfinished models I have on my shelf. At first glance, there are a lot of them. But I made a disappointing conclusion that they are still not enough if I want to become the absolute champion in unfinished models. It turned out that this hard sport has a lot of competition, so I start a new model - Kübelwagen Type 82 from Tamiya. I hope that this will be another gem on my shelf with unfinished models Vytautas
