  1. Hi all, I am trying to find a paint colour as close as possible to what NASA used to call International Red. This is the colour of the booster gantries used in the early Mercury and Gemini launches. I am gonna build the old Revell/Atlantis Mercury Capsule & Atlas Booster kit. The closest I can find is Tamiya's LP-42 Mica Red. Does anyone have any better recommendations? Thanks Steve
  2. Greetings to everyone! At the end of a long break, I can add the article of a model I finished to the forum Our model, which is the subject of this article, is PM Model's veteran kit YAK-15. A model that has very few parts and can be considered highly compatible (except for the canopy) can be preferred for preference.
  3. Looking for some help here - I am planning to build a late-1942 Halifax Mk II (there's a bit of a background story to the project, but I won't go into it here). However, I am not sure if the squadron codes on the fuselage should be grey or dull red for this period. I have seen pictures of early Halifaxes with grey codes, and later ones with red ones. Can anybody tell me when the code colours changed? My Google-fu today is evidently not up to the task. Any info gratefully received. Steve
  4. Hello Everyone! As my first post I want to ask about the red color in the Red Arrows Folland Gnat airplanes. I know the actual red is Signal Red for the Hawk T.1 and Cherry Red for the former Red arrows, but what is for the 1978-79 years?. I have the Italeri 2677 for the Hawk and the Airfix A015124 for the Folland Gnat. Thanks!!
  5. I've just received my first set of Hataka red line paints. These paints are advertised as "optimised for airbrush" and the side of the bottle says "airbrush tested" The paints I received were a million miles away from being airbrush ready, they were thin-ish brush paints. After a short conversation with the UK stockist and with Hataka's facebook page, they have confirmed that none of their paints are airbrush-ready, they all need to be diluted. As far as I'm concerned this is, at best, misleading and at worst blatant and deliberate mis-selling. I'm very disappointed and I would advise Members to avoid the product.
  6. Hi, I am about to start painting on my Airfix Jet Provost - scheme is White, Red, LAG. Airfix suggests H174 for the Red, indicating it to be BS537 in the instructions. I also have here Xtracolor X014 Red Arrows Red, also labeled BS537. Comparing the two, Xtracolor looks a little lighter and a bit more one the 'orange' side than H174. I am not sure which paint to use. Does anyone know which one is the better match? TIA Ingo
  7. Finished a while back. New tool Airfix kit that is pretty good to put together, only a few small thi ha that I reckon were more my doing than the kit. Built OOB with the exception of the Iliad decals and an Eduard etch seatbelt. Enjoy!
  8. Not much of a WIP as I've not taken many pics of it's build! But this is actually my 2nd attempt at this kit, the first one I attempted 4/5 years ago is locked up in a draw where I'm too ashamed to look at it ha, it's bad, real bad. So as I've been improving the skills lately I decided to snap this kit up again, it's still cheap and you get so much plastic for your money. And in truth, it's a great build too which has gone together easily for me! One of the reasons I wanted to get it though was to improve on my finishing and spraying of models, and although I'm still using cans to do it, I'm so happy about how it's turning out! I've used Eduard's PE for the cockpit but not all of it (just not skilled enough, and made a slight cock up with it too, bonus points to anyone who spots it) but the rest is out of the box. Some pics to show where it's at right now... Still a long way to go, and I'm gonna double-decal it to get them to stand out more. Cockpit canopy is going to be repainted too as it's not glued in yet thankfully, but this is a great kit and a recommend it big time for anyone who wants something to stand out
  9. Morning all, I picked up this little gem of a kit for just over £4 from my LMS, and what a great purchase it was! The quality of the tooling itself is rather terrible- raised panel lines, no cockpit detail apart from some basic seats, poor wing-fuselage join, thick one-piece canopy and minimal level of overall external detail. But its redeeming features are So, I began by first of all cutting and dropping the flaps, positioning the elevator and ailerons and cutting the canopy into two pieces. Secondly modification was the cockpit, now this is quite literally what you get with the kit: (control columns modified slightly) I couldn't let that remain unaltered and so I started to add some detail: (note the compass in each cockpit) One or two coats of paint and gloss varnish later and it was completed: Airfix 1:72 De Havilland Chipmunk T.10 Notes: -Painted with Vallejo "Model Air" -Kit decals with a few from the spares box -Weathered with Vallejo "Moden Wash"- dark grey -Varnished with Alclad aqua gloss Well, that's it- thanks for having a look! Kind regards, Sam
  10. Hello fine folk of Britmodellerland, If I may, I'd like to share my latest model? I've been tinkering away merrily with the old Airfix dh-88 Comet racer for about three months or there abouts. The old girl needs a bit of TLC to get the best from her so I did some work on the kit in an attempt to model "Grosvenor House" as she appears today. Thanks in large part to some fine images by Alpha Delta 210 (see here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234968762-de-havilland-dh88-comet-grosvenor-house/ ) and others in the Aviation Photography forum plus the walkaround here on BM http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234954337-de-havilland-dh88-comet/ I had plenty of reference material to work from. For those who have n't seen it, there is a WIP thread detailling the specifics of what was tackled here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234967804-airfix-72nd-scale-dh-88-comet-new-release-ancient-molding/ I'm not as used to photographing the smaller scales as I am the larger scales so I apologise if the images are n't too clear. Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy them anyway. These next few are a bit closer in an attempt to show some details. Lastly, a couple of shots in front of a scenic backdrop. A big thankyou and two thumbs up to everyone who helped me along during the build. Now, what to build next? Cheers for now.
  11. When painting the 'convict's pyjama' stripes on Vichy French aircraft, is the recommended order yellow-then-red or red-then-yellow? I ask since I have the yellow in enamel and acrylic, but the red only in enamel, and I would find masking and cleaning up the acrylic easier. Thanks in advance for your replies.
