  1. I've had this kit for some time, I'd even made a start on it but hadn't got very far, Patrice @TEMPESTMK5 has kindly classed the model as within the 25% and therefore eligible for the GB. My boxing is for the aircraft in its earlier guise, I really wanted to do one in later ANG markings so I put out a begging bowl and that absolute gentleman @stevehnz agreed to do a swap, the problem is now, I'm spoiled for choice although I'm currently torn between a New Jersey and a Texan ANG aircraft. Thanks to Patrice and Steve for helping me enter this STGB.
  2. Good afternoon, This model has been on display shelf for sometime, it's the RS Models 1/72 kit finished in LAPE colors from the Spanish civil war. To view my model just click on the secure link. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0YTyzb37wqFZy0xd1p0NmV0X0dQbU5Sd3NwZ3pMSDQyZ0g0 https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0YTyzb37wqFaFhXTkxEVVJDWHhPSEVpaHVGbVUtWG5GMTBJ
  3. Heller's old Caudron CR.714 was improved a bit by looking at the RS Models kit and copying its detail. Decals also came from the RS Kit. It took some time to get this kit finally finished. It still lacks a crosshair gunsight, but I'll get a PE one for that soon. Cheers, Luka
  4. This may well be the only model I complete this year, so I'm putting it up on RFI as well as in the Mustang Group Build where it's been part of an attempt to complete a B and D model too. I've always been intrigued by the P-51H, as it's quite a rare beast, arriving too late for WWII and not serving in Korea, despite being the fastest of the Mustangs. Given the arrival of jets, it had only a short service life in the USAAF & later the USAF, before equipping many ANG units. But as a piece of aeronautical engineering, the H with a top speed of 487mph is quite a masterpiece and sits nicely with the Sea Fury as one of the final hurrahs of the piston-engined fighter. So I wanted one. The RS Models kit is relatively straightforward but needs patience and a bit of filler on the seams. I started this in August looking for a quick & easy build but somehow I never got much time to get on with it. I didn't have access to plans when I started and I think the shapes are broadly OK, though I'm not completely convinced by the angles of the fin/rudder. The only parts I added were canopy rails and a new shelf for the sliding portion of the canopy, as the kit part would not allow it to sit properly when open. I used the plastic wheels rather than the resin ones (which were two different sizes) and left off the resin rockets too which were all warped and crudely moulded. I was considering using the launch-rail stubs from an Airfix F-51D but in the end went for just the fuel pylons, as I wanted a clean-looking wing. The undercarriage legs were miles too long so it took some time to get those looking half-decent. This was my first use of Mr Surfacer as primer (I used the 1200 straight from the rattle can, and liked it), and of Alclad II lacquers (plain Aluminium) which also went on well - second time around, after I'd realised how the priming has to be properly blemish free... The kit decals were nicely designed but poorly-printed in that the artwork was not accurately placed on the film, so I had some issues with crumbling serial numbers and other bits & bobs. I made the black walk-ways from spare Spitfire ones. Some may find the colour-scheme a touch non-descript as I chose not to go with the yellow trim on spinner, fin and wing-tips. This would have necessitated adding the red bar to the stars & bars, and really I wanted to portray a pre-1947 aircraft - oddly my interest starts to drop off a cliff after that point in time. Here it is then, hope you like it: Justin
  5. Just got the new release with the mail, a few days ago, so this GB was a good opportunity to get it started. Fit is actually very good, and asemply progressed quit quickly, this was acieved i just 1 hour of building. There are of course no guilding pins etc, but i find that overall detail is nicely done. cheers Jes
