  1. Hello Everyone This is Tamiya’s excellent 1/35 Panzerkampfwagon IV Ausf.H. I’ve always admired Tamiya’s box art even though the AFV’s are usually just the vehicle against a white background. There’s something about their artwork that makes you want to buy it in the first place and then to at least attempt to replicate the fantastic artwork. Anne 823 hasn’t had a difficult life and I wanted to keep the weathering to a minimal but realistic level. The only modifications were to the springs on the mud guards, a metal tow cable, the outer doors on the turret Schurzen and the main Schurzen on the sides of the tank. It’s been painted with Tamiya paints and weathered with some of the Mig Ammo Splashes range and I also used a selection of Windsor Newton oils. It’s also the first time I’ve spent some time on figure painting, lots of lesson’s to learn but I’m getting there. Many thanks for looking. Regards Trace
  2. Panzerkampfwagen III Aus L. On display at the Tank Museum in Bovington. This is an early production Aus L, modified for ‘tropical’ service. It was shipped via Naples to Benghazi in Libya in July 1942, arriving on the SS Lerica on July 18th. It was issued to the 8th Panzer Regiment, part of the 15th Panzer Division and probably fought in the battle of Alam Halfa. It was subsequently captured by the British Army and shipped to the UK; the details of its’ capture and subsequent history are unclear. Info from from The Tank Museum Pics thanks to Alex; Pics thanks to Mike;
  3. Hi everyone, This is my Panzer II. Just about getting the hang of the new weathering technique that I've copied off of something I saw in a magazine, this basically involves me spraying a very thin coat of a brown or dark colour over the running gear just to simulate the grime that built up down there and to tone the model down. Tamiya's kit is nice, being tooled in 2008 it is naturally one of the better Tamiya kits and it was a bit of a break from the 70's and 80's kits that I have been building and updating. The only problems with the kit that I faced were the lifting hooks on the turret went missing so I placed a bit of foil painted in Tamiya dark green over the top of the big locating holes to mimic a draped piece of folded tarpaulin. Also the link and length track (in which it was my first experience in using it) was a bit of a tricky job on the first side and I was left with a small gap that had to be fitted with a slightly modified track link to make it look normal, the second side however was slightly easier. The tank itself was painted in Tamiya acrylics whilst the detail painting was done in Humbrol enamel and Vallejo acrylics which gave the wood colour. Decaling was a bit tricky as a lot of the decals were on the turret and were over vision panels or fairings so Mr Softener was used to give them a bit of help whilst settling (that and lots of Klear!) Weathering mainly consisted of the said running gear treatment and various washes and filters. A dot filter was applied to the turret and some of the more slanted parts of the hull but not all of the tank could be filtered as there's so much equipment on the thing. Thanks for looking! Again, thanks for looking. It may not be one of my best builds but, hopefully the Mk. IV 'Tadpole' from Takom will be better!
  4. Tiger I - 131 as restored by the Bovington Tank Museum. Pics thanks to Mike D. On 21 April 1943, a Tiger I of the 504th German heavy tank battalion, with turret number 131, was captured on a hill called Djebel Djaffa in Tunisia. A 6-pounder solid shot from a Churchill tank of the British 48th Royal Tank Regiment hit the Tiger's gun barrel and ricocheted into its turret ring, jamming its traverse and wounding the commander. The crew bailed out and the tank was captured. After repairs, the tank was sent to England for a thorough inspection.
