In case you have missed the announcement, the reason that the forum has been slow at times since the minor version update the other day is due to a Denial of Service attack, brute force attack on our email, and judging by the lag with our FTP response, that too. If you're feeling like you're experiencing a glitch in the Matrix, you're not wrong. This is the same MO as the attack in September 2016 that occurred when we transitioned to the new version 4 of the software. We're currently working with US and UK cyber-crime departments, who specialise in this sort of thing, and we're hopeful that we'll be able to track them down this time by using the accumulated evidence already held. We are pretty certain that it's a continuation of the same attack last year, only at a reduced intensity to deter people from using the site "because it's terribly slow", rather than taking it down completely, and we're also sure of the motivations of those responsible. Spite. Please bear with us in the interim, and wish us luck in dealing with these.... "people".

Mike posted a topic in AnnouncementsThere has been a rise lately of people advertising their Blogs, Forums, Websites and Channels to entice members to sign up for their modelling musings, and it's now got to the stage where we need to call a halt to it. It is becoming more apparent that some members can't limit themselves to just a single post about it in their quest to get subscribers and from those subscribers, subsequent advertising revenue from their enterprise. We have kept a watch on things and it has increased in frequency until it has now become irritating. From now on, we will remove any thread that invites people to their blogs, sites, Facebook Page or YouTube channel etc. without discussion. However, anyone that wishes to have a link to their chosen blog, website or channel in their signature may still do so as long as it meets the usual signature criteria, and is not of the animated type. Why have we done this? We took the decision very early on that Britmodeller was not to be run as an advertising platform for our own, or anyone else's benefit. For the sole reason that we dislike the intrusion upon the enjoyment of the honest content, we have stuck to this way of thinking with a great deal of support from the membership. Having people advertising their own commercial ventures such as blogs, YouTube channels, forums etc. makes a mockery of that aim. Britmodeller is a community of modellers, for modellers, not a profit generation opportunity. This site exists on the generosity of members providing donations, please don't abuse their generosity.
