  1. Here is my second real build to try and get some sort of semblance to what I used to be able to do with kits. Granted, my skill level is nowhere near the masterpieces I see on this site. I am more the journeyman type of builder. It looks somewhat like it is supposed to but it ain’t gonna win any beauty contests. This is the old version of a 1/48 Tamiya ME 109 I had in the stash. I have the new tool version but thought this would be a good kit to practice on. It is OOB with the only modifications being the gun barrels were drilled out. I am somewhat happy with it. (Mainly because with the canopy closed you really cannot see how poorly I did the cockpit!!) I was a little heavy handed with the weathering, especially on the bottom. My next project is another 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire which is in the beginning stages. From my work bench, it looks like I should know what I am doing!!!! However, the picture does show my shame of the 1/24 Trumpeter ME 109 and 1/32 Trumpeter Avenger that have long stalled, and I am working back to restarting. Before I started the Seiran and ME 109, I took out my building ineptness on the 1/72 PM “Bagdad Fury” and Revell’s Fw TL-Jager “Flitzer”. Do not be too harsh with the really poor painting, especially on the Fury. Finally, this morning one of the horses got spooked as I was feeding him a treat (German Horse Biscuits or as I call them “horse crack”). He mistook my little finger for the treat. Normally, I always wear leather gloves when working with the animals on the ranch. This one time I didn’t bother. Should have known. So, I will let you know how much modeling is done using the little finger.
  2. Finished this a while ago but only made the effort to setup the camera after finishing another model to make the effort worth it. This is the atypical "Me 109" hijacked by Tintin in "King Ottokar's Sceptre". The plane is a hybrid of various versions of the 109 - Most of it appears to be a Me 109F but the nose is more like a 109D and there are no underwing radiators like the early 109's. This kit is also a composite - the resin Fuselage, Spinner, Props and tailplanes are from Retrokit and the remaining parts are from the AZ Me 109F as recommended by Retrokit. Decals are supplied in the Retrokit conversion however I found these to be the wrong size as compared to the actual pictures in the album. I used the decals from a Blue Rider set I've had for a while. The underwing roundels look a bit large in this set but they're close enough. I've used the colours in the book as a guide and to me they look close to Olive Drab and Neutral Grey so that's what I've gone with. In general the build was pretty straight forward though the resin fuselage showed a bit of asymmetry around the chin radiator and the fin looks a bit off centre. One thing to note is that the Blue Rider instructions and sheet supply roundels for the upper wing but there is no sign of these in the actual book and in this case Retrokits instructions/decals are correct. There is another nice build of this subject from a few months ago and this used bits of a Heller 109D and 109F which would be the best solution if you can't source the Retrokit or you think its a bit cheaper to go the cross kit option. This build also includes something which I'd like to have done but would have taken a bit more effort - modelling Tintin and Snowy in the cockpit. Cheers Michael
  3. Watching the paint dry on the F-4s got tiresome so I decided to take on my last unbuilt AZ Messerschmitt. It’s a boxing containing these: ...but I will make use of some Xtradecal sheets I have so that money wasn’t all wasted. One of the G-6s seen here, provably the one flown by a man named Kahler: The AZ kit contains parts to do a G-5, G-6, G-8 or G-14, with several different options of tanks and armament, making the sprues look busy: I have already finished the cockpit: Oops, a terrible photo, but I’m sure you’ve seen it before anyway. It’s very nicely detailed, I’d consider having an open canopy if I had any vac-forms. And my sandpaper is apparently RLM02 if Vallejo is correct.
  4. Hello guys, here's a kit I built in 2020, but was finished "properly" yesterday. It's Revell's Bf 109G-10 with markings for Green 2, based at Stendal in 1945. The only thing I did to finish the kit was to add some mottling to the fuselage sides.
  5. Zvezda Me 109F-1 - Werner Molders Wk Nbr 5628 This is Zvezda's F-2 backdated to an F-1. The build is based on information on a thread here by JackG I've made some the changes as per the original build by Jack (wing strengtheners, removal of tail stiffeners). The Zvezda kit is reputed to be the most accurate shapewise of all the current F's on the market however I found the engineering to be a bit frustrating. The upper/lower wing joins don't match existing control surface lines and getting a smooth clean join is time consuming. In addition, the air intakes requires drilling out, the mass balances need to be added and the pitot really needs replacing. Finally the canopy is made of some odd material that doesn't polish well (it's a bit like vacform clear plastic) and I ended up having to future it which is something I tend to avoid. The general markings are from various sources though the Stkz and rudder markings are from Printscale. This aircraft is quite interesting as it is the 1st F-1 and was issued to Molders who operated it during the latter stages of the Battle of Britain. Any RAF pilot seeing it would have been a bit surprised as it would differ a bit from the E's operating at the time (i.e. rounder wing tips).
  6. The Messerschmitt Stiftung is a collection of Messerschmitt-Planes in flying condition. The Planes home is in Manching AB, near Ingolstadt.
