  1. Hello everyone, My first post to the armour forum and the first armour model I had done. I completed this Trumpeter KV-2 in the summer of 2022, so it's a couple of years out of date. Nevertheless, I figured I'll start from the beginning. These were taken before I was putting much thought into getting multiple angles in my photos, so I apologize for the lack of any rear views. This being my first tank model, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. Having made several more now, I'm glad I started with a Trumpeter build. The fit of the pieces was all good, but the treads did snap on me at the time (I still have terrible luck with the single-piece rubber treads; any advice on fitting these would be much appreciated). This little guy was painted in Tamiya's German Grey and given a quick dry brush of silver to simulate some wear and tear. I've since moved onto more sophisticated and time-consuming weathering techniques, but I still think the results are decent for such a quick go-over. This was made before I discovered filters, chipping, washes or really anything outside of an initial acrylic paint layer. I believe this was made shortly after I bought my first airbrush (and that was revolutionary enough!). Any feedback or advice is welcome! I'm still fairly new to armour modelling, so while I have improved since this build, I'm still open to any suggestions. Stan
  2. Hello, after a long hiatus, I came back to modelling and chose the KV-2 from Trumpeter being the beast of choice to tackle. Over the course of years, I have bought some aftermarket stuff (with varying levels of usability, to be honest). Here is the lineup of the accessories - well DEFINITELY NOT all of them were really of any value. And I am speaking speaking specifically about YOU -> FC Model Trend! And here is the current status - still before the final small stuff to be added. Also, I am pretty sure that the next "surfacer-phase" will bring some new challenges (i.e. consequences of my two-left-hands) to tackle :-) I added acetylene-torch marks on all major armor-plates, both on hull as well as the turret. Although the kit brings some nice and subtle welds, they were missing at the aft curved armour. There I made use of my old stock of the Archer dry transfers to replicate the weld beads. The tracks in the kit were hammered with ejector pin-marks, which I wasn't really willing to sand, so opted for the Friulmodel ATL-10 link-to-link tracks instead. IMHO they really look better than the Trumpeter-tracks, but they also add the "extra heft" to the model (which for some reason I like 😉 ) The gun barrel from ABER 35L-44 is in my opinion a "must-have". It is perfectly turned, but also has that "hidden detail" of barrel thread, which, considering the size of the 152 mm howitzer, is really visible on the model. I opted for the FC Model Trend screens and exhausts. Honestly speaking - only the screens were so-so usable. The exhaust stacks were marred by crude print-marks and I am not sure, they added any value over the kit exhausts... The large Eduard 35825 PE sheet contains some useful details, but overall the detail of kit is really remarkable. For example - I did opt for kit´s real deflector, since the kit part IMHO represents the structure of the part better than PE replacement. Still, the Eduard set contains a lot of details for further KV-1 tanks, so they will find use at future projects. I added also some cabling behind the horn and light, based on pictures from surviving museum exhibits. There is still some work to be done - like MGs, towing-cable holders, etc. Next step would be to spray the kit with Surfacer 1200 and repair a plethora of issues I expect to find. Wish me luck!
  3. I'm currently building the above model. The final suggested paint for Version A (Red Army, Unit unknown, Russia 1941) is a 1:1 mixture of XF-4 & XF-58. I'm not keen on mixing large amounts of different paints, as I either don't make enough (and then the next mix is a slightly different shade to what I had before), or, I make too much, which is really a bit of a waste, even if I manage to store it, as I doubt there would be enough for the next kit that needed that mix. I looked up the Tamiya KV-1 (which I built previously) to see what color that was, but couldn't find the suggested color leaflet that came with the kit (annoying as I have kept all the instructions to the kits I've built). I then looked up Trumpeter's KV-3. This gave Russian Green (1) (Mr Color #135), which I don't have. The only comparison paint I have is Revell 36161 (Emerald Green), but this looks a bit too bright (Modelshade gives a 4star comparison). I'm probably ordering some more kits next week, so could wait and order the MrColor then. However, is there another paint that is more akin to this mix, (Humbrol, Vallejo, Hataka, Life Color, etc.) which I could order at the same time? Thanks in advance.
  4. I'm posting the work I completed earlier this year. This is Tamiya KV-2 kit, and I made additional accessories and bases. Thank you
  5. MENG Soviet Heavy tank KV-2 RFI (at last)😍 Hello everyone, I built this a while ago now, the WIP can be found HERE it was a test for weathering and mud techniques. It was a fun build and I have bought a few more of these kits. It was a quick build that went wrong in places but ended up rather pleasing. I also built a little hill out of Oasis to stand it on. Meng kit Tamiya acrylic paints AK heavy muddy weathering set. extreme weathered vehicles (squared) I didn't get around to an RFI so while I was tying up last years loose ends I decided to roll her out for one final hurrah. Hope you like it. Johnny. 😀 So There you go. Hope you like it. Happy new year you lot. Johnny.
  6. Hello everybody, I´d like to show a work from my girlfriend Ludmila. She´s a specialist for models of russian technic WW2 in scale 1:35. She is building model kits only for 3 years and these two are her last attempts. So take a look on photographs. T34/85 is from Tamiya production and the KV-2 is from Trumpeter production. Best regards Ivo from Czech Republic.
  7. Hi all, I spent a day off to finish this tank OOB. Simple colouring and simple weathering to keep the building quick. The Tamiya kits are really easy to assemble. It takes me a lot less time to get the parts fit together. Hope you like it, cheers!
  8. I am looking for any known scenarios where a KV-2 and an Elephant would have been either engaged in combat or working alongside one another in a captured Russian armour event. The Germans used KV tanks in proposals and plans and the 1/72 Trumpeter example I have even has German markings. I would like to produce a diorama incorporating the two 1/72 kits I have of the Elefant and KV-2, it seems probable they met in combat as the panzer was one of the few which could tackle the KV's armour. Does anyone have any ideas about what sort of area or battle these two would have been seen in?
  9. Built for the "Less than a tenner" group build. Build thread.
  10. Build 1 & 2 Because the only difference in the kits are the turrets, I'm combining two builds into one thread. I know I've already built them in the photos, but don't worry, that's just to show that they're meant to be snap together kits. There's still a lot of work to do even if the part count is quite low =D Price: £2.99 each from Antics.
