Hey, I'd like to share with you my most recent addition to the shelves: Trumpeter's 1/350 scale USS Independence LCS-2. Apart from the way too soft photo-etch the kit is really good and I enjoyed it. I Hope you like my little ship! Cheers, Tom

USS Independence CVL-22 1:350 Etch sets The latest etched nickel set from Eduard, this time for Dragons excellent kit of the CVL 22 USS Independence. Whilst the model is superb it is still lacking in certain areas. Eduard have chosen to address some of these shortcomings with this two sheet set. The larger of the two sheets provides the all the railing required to fit out the whole ship, all nicely designed to be the right length for their respective positions. The railings include those required to be fitted around the aircraft lifts when the lifts are lowered. Other flightdeck items include a well detailed crash barrier which can be posed either lowered or raised, and replacement Landing Control Officer station. Each gun mount gets new railings and footplates, plus new splinter plates for the 20mm Oerlikons. Apart from the ships main radar, the rest of the sheet contains, floater baskets, open and closed armoured doors, vertical and short inclined ladders, plus hole templates for the islands ladder rungs, which look like they could be the most awkward parts or this set. Lastly there are four cable reels, which will require a short length of plastic rod to finish off. The smaller of the sheets contains the ammunition racks for the 40mm and 20mm gun mounts, the rungs for the island ladders mentioned above, inclined ladders for the catwalks. The support structure for the main radar aerial plus platforms and supports for all the other radars are also included. These are really nicely done, but will require some careful bending and gluing. The final parts on this sheet are for the ships crane, which gets a new jib, ladders, railings, and hook. Conclusion Eduard really know how to do etch sets, and this set is no different. All the parts are nicely detailed in their own right with relief etching and will go toward making a good model into a great one. The fineness of the parts is a wonder to behold, although they are quite fragile, until the assemblies are glued together, particularly the radars and supports. This set may not be as extensive as some other manufacturers sets, but this may be an advantage for those modellers that don’t need any more detail. Recommended Review sample courtesy of
