  1. Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck - or 'Clunk' as it was known by the canadians. Hoping to do the Belgian version but I still have some research to do - and have to acquire the decals. The kit is the gun armed version - the belgians flew the wingtip pod FFAR armed version, not sure yet whether it can be done from this box. If everything fails, I'm building the canadian version. OK looking white plastic, it looks bit simplified in places but I think we can make a decent looking model out of it. Aftermarket that I am thinking in addition to the decals are the seats.
  2. Hello again my fellow modellers. This time allow me to bother you with my attempt to build a Royal Canadian Navy McDonnell F2H-3 Banshee. Come for the resin, come for the colour scheme, come for my stupid ideas. But first things first. The kit: I guess by now you know I need new RCN decals... Now on the plastic. Engraved panel lines as you can see: and yes, that's the MLG wheel well but you won't be needing much more when everything is in place. Hmmm, the cockpit I think I'll need to do something about. Let's have a closer look at the canopy: Even has rivet detail on it! And although it's clear enough, its thickness causes severe distortions. Or maybe I'm just a spoilt brat. I'll have to think about it... Landing gear, pylons, exhaust, inlets etc. Not many parts. A simple little kit and great value for money if you ask me. And the fit looks like it's exceptionally good even straight out of the sprue without glue: Keep in mind this is a 1987 kit! And the NLG wheel well area (Spoiler alert!) Yes, I gave in to the resin sirens... I'm weak, I know... Obscureco resin set, CanMilAir decals and (for the first time for me) MRP paint. I have everything lined up, all set. How hard can it be anyway? As always thank you for looking and thank you for leaving a comment. Ta ta for now.
  3. Way back in 1997 I bought the Hobbycraft 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury kit along with a Flightpath white metal, resin and etch detail set. Scroll forward to 2020 and to the 'In the Navy Group Build' where I would finally make a modest attempt at putting this together, I should also mention that the intervening years had seen me pulling this out of the to do pile only to then return it to said pile for another time. Anyway, filled with enthusiam 2020 would finally see me put glue to bits and sticking them together. On that occasion, along with boasts of 'once I get started I will get it finished', I got as far as assembling some of the cockpit parts before it was put aside again. Another couple of years would pass before I would give it another 'good coat of looking at', and with a slight lull in my planned model building activities at that time I had decided that I really wanted to get this finished. Then in late January of this year I thought it would be an ideal subject for KUTA 2022 hoping that this Group Builds end date would give me something achievable. It didn't make it over the line then either but on this occasion I have persisted with it and I am pleased to say that some 26 years after my orignal purchases I completed it Friday. I dropped the flaps and opened up the gun and ammunition bays on one wing then used the wing fold details on the opposite side, all of which meant that in the end I only used around half of the Flightpath set but tried to make as much use of those parts to show what is possible. Although the cockpit is well detailed I messed up when trimming the vac-formed canopy and had to use the kit version, so little can be seen of that. The main painting was airbrushed with Hataka's Orange Line series of laquer paints. It has been a long time coming but I hope that you enjoy looking at the end result. 4. Hi, About time that I start a thread for my RB-36H. I'm using the Hobbycraft B-36D because it has the neccesary blisters for a recce B-36. As far as I know Roden have not done a recce version of their B-36 yet. I will use option 1 from the Caracal sheet: RB-36H 51-5754 of the 72 nd BW at Ramey AFB. There is also a second option for an RB-36E of the 72 nd BW, but that's a bit more bland without the SAC and wing badge that my RB-36H will have. Today, I glued the wing together and airbrushed the props black. Cheers, Stefan.
  5. Hello guys! Here are some photos of my most recent model, the Hobbycraft Ar 234. The kit is not as refined as the Hasegawa one, but it looks alright.
  6. Might as well jump in, doesn't come any more Canadian than this. Well, maybe if you posed it next to a moose and a Mountie.... The infamous Avro Arrow......
  7. Hi everyone, Thought I'd share with you some pictures of my 1/144th Hobbycraft GRB-36 Peacemaker with its RF-84 Ficon. Both are built OOB, and finish with Alclad II metals in varying shades and colour's to give the NMF. The kit also includes a little XF-85 Goblin and trailer as a bonus. To this I made a thinner vac canopy and posed it open. ( 'Gene' is added to show how big the aircraft were ) I really enjoyed the build and watched Strategic Air Command several times as 'research' to try and replicate the finish of the B-36. Also recommended is 'Magnesium Overcast' The story of the Convair B-36 by Dennis. R. Jenkins. Hope you like, comments, suggestions welcome. Thanks, Kevin I
  8. Wolfpack Design is to rebox the Hobbycraft (?) 1/48th Curtiss Hawk H-75C in French AF markings - ref. WP14815 Source: http://www.wolfpack-d.com/htm/kit.html” V.P.
  9. Built this last month as part of the Canadair GB, build thread here: Here is my build of a Canadair CT-114 Tutor using the Hobbycraft kit in 1/72, built OOB in a 'wheels-up' configuration and is another destined for the ceiling. Thanks for looking. Stuart
  10. With my entry in the F-5 STGB done and the two F.4 Sabres being titivated before priming, thought I'd smack this Hobbycraft kit of the CT 114 into the GB before starting another Sabre. As far as I'm aware, this is the only injection kit of a Tutor and 30+ years old. The plastic doesn't look too bad although the interior is a little sparse considering the size of the canopy that is a little thick but not overly so. Will let you know about the decals. Stuart
  11. One of the lesser known stories that happened 40 years ago during Malvinas/Falklands war, was the attempt from Argentina of replacing the lost A-4Qs from the Armada with retired stock A-4Es from the Israeli Air Force. The deal was to obtain 16 A-4Es with a cash purchase of 90 million dollars. The purchase happened, but the weapons embargo from the US to Argentina made impossible for Israel to ship the aircraft. Those 90 million dollars weren't lost though, since they were used, after the war, to modernise the S-2 Tracker to Turbotracker standard (at least that's what I was told earlier today). The kit is the Hobbycraft Douglas A-4E Skyhawk in Israeli markings, which won't be used. Instead, I'll be using a Condor Decals set for six A-4Q aircraft. My idea is to dress the plane up in the light grey/white colour scheme of the A-4Qs in Armada service. Loadout for the aircraft will be the two fuel tanks, and plenty of bombs on the central and outermost pylons. Here's the box and the decals: And, to prove I'm not lying about the story above, here's a colour photo of one A-4E with the low visibility scheme applied after the war. You can see the extended exhaust nozzle on both aircraft. My build plan is to start when I have my Winter Holidays. Which are three months away. Though I could try to begin building the aircraft sooner. We'll see.
  12. #3/2022 After the French Corsair, my dad has finished the next French subject. Hobbycraft kit, Barracuda Studios wheels, Eduard seatbelts, gunsight from the Hasegawa F4U-7 kit, EZ Line for the antenna wire, plastic rods for the two whip antennas, plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines. Painted with a mix of AK Real Colors Darks Sea Blue and RLM83. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235102376-guerre-dindochine148-grumman-f8f-1b-bearcat-armĂ©e-de-l’air/ Too late for WW2, replaced by jets as a fighter in Korea and outclassed by the Corsair as fighterbomber in Korea, US Bearcats didnÂŽt see combat action. But the French Airforce made good use of them in the Indochina War from 1951 to 1954. The model shows an aircraft of GC 1/22 "Saintonge". 14. Hi everyone, Next up on the workbench is the 1/48 Hobbycraft Hawk 75, which I’ll be doing in the guise of a Battle of France aircraft, very similar to the flying example that can be seen here at IWM Duxford. As you can see I have purchased a smattering of aftermarket as the detail is a little soft in areas and it wasn’t excessively expensive. In fact the most expensive part of this project was the decal sheet from Berna Decals: https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BER48144 I haven’t decided on the exact aircraft I’ll be modelling as of yet. But I like the two with Native American insignia on the fuselage. This project will also be a first as I have bought some lifecolor paints for the French camouflage, anyone have any experience with those for when I come to spray them? Unfortunately this build may drag on as I’m supposed to be moving house very soon, but I won’t hold my breath, solicitors are taking an age! Cheers Ash
  15. My entry to this Group Build will be a two-seater Bf 109 G-12. Although I have over fifty Bf 109 kits in the stash, I have only one kit of the G-12, which is a rather old Hobbycraft kit:- Scalemates indicates that this is a reboxing of an earlier kit by the Polish firm Intech:- However, according to Lynn Ritger, in his excellent SAM Publications Guide to the Messerschmitt Bf 109 - Part 2, the Hobbycraft kit is a very poor one. He recommends that the Hobbycraft fuselage can be used, with a Hasegawa G-6 kit providing the wings, the undercarriage, the props and the tailplanes (and probably one of the cockpits, as apparently these are also poor in the Hobbycraft kit.), The Hobbycraft kit does have interesting decal choices - not only the German one shown on the box top, but also Italian (post 1943) and Yugoslav (1950) options. So, I am going to do a kitbash with one of the (many) Hasegawa kits that I have in the stash:- I could, of course, buy one of the more recent AZ kits of the G-12, but that would be too easy (and would add even more to the stash). This way, I reduce the stash by two in one go. However, I have never kit-bashed before, so it should be fun......and a learning experience. I will start later in the week, as rain is forecast from Thursday onwards. Philip
  16. A new day, a new plane. I picked up this kit today. I'm fully aware of where I'm headed with this kit, I've read some reviews that mentioned the kit had fit issues, however, I'm not someone to be scared of them. I'll be making this aircraft as a Luft 46 machine (A high altitude bomber painted in RLM 81/82/84 with red engine intake rings). Photo of the box: It's not one of the most inspiring boxarts, but for the early nineties it does the job. More progress soon!
  17. Hi everyone! Hope you all are doing well and safe! This past weekend I discovered some photos in an old hard drive of some model kits I build like 10 or more years ago. They are not up to my today standards, but I still have them in my display gabinet, and some of them are still my favorites. This is the case with this Hobbycraft A-4C. If I remember right, this was build out of the box, including decals. I just added a True Details ejection seat, a Squadron vacuform canopy and windscreen to replace the horrible kit one and I scratchbuild FOD and engine covers to hide the non existent detail inside the fuselage. I like so much that I'm seriously considering doing another one with a Hasegawa kit. Hope you like it! PD. I have just notice that after all this years I've still not added the windshield wiper! Regards, Tato
  18. Belgian Air Force CF-100 Mk 5 Canuck Kit: Hobbycraft CF-100 All-Weather Fighter (HC1391) Scale: 1/72 Aftermarket: Modeldecal decals and Iroquois Models seats Paints: Hataka Red Line and Vallejo Model Air and Vallejo Metal Color Weathering: Flory Models Wash, Tamiya & MiG weathering products Not a bad kit at all of this little bit more obscure plane. Quite simple cockpit and wheel details but other than that looks like a nice and detailed kit. Added wing extensions from plasticard, the version in the box is Mk.4 and Belgians used Mk.V with the extended wings. Main camo painted with Hataka Red Line acrylics, my first proper paintjob with Hataka paints. Built for Interceptors GB Build thread:
  19. Hi guys, A while ago I bought a second-hand kit online an was surprised to see this kit in the box too, the guy wanted to get rid of it I think. I too was not really interested in it, I thought it was best to throw it in the bin. But after a while I thought maybe it's nice to use it a weekend project(which became weeks off course..). Except for the decals it is straight OOB, the kit decal were the worst I've ever seen, I used a set from Expert choice. Which were also given for free from a fellow modeller from the US. Hope you like it, not a masterpiece but just a fuss-free build of this important Cold war jet. Erik
  20. Let's make this into an RNAS airplane. There are some differences between the Hobbycraft "Aces" kits and the old Hobbycraft camel kits. The Le Rhone and Clerget Aces boxings are different molds with better detail. I have a few other things to add as well, a Copper State Clerget engine, a Barracuda wicker seat, and some extra bits from a Wingnut Wings kit. I'll use some kit decals as well as extras from the WNW kit to do one of these: or maybe this: I do love the stripes but am leaning towards the one with the poster glazed on the tail, how cool is it that they pasted a big goofy picture of their favourite comedian to the airplane. Would it be too much to make it a what-if scheme with stripes and the poster? đŸ˜± Here's a closer look at the parts I'll be replacing with Wingnut extras. Hobbycraft parts at the top.
  21. I am hope someone here can answer this for me. Regarding the canopy in the 1/72 F-86 Sabre kit by Academy. It looks like when they took over the molds from Hobbycraft, Academy changed the canopy, adding detail that Hobbycraft had not. Is the Academy canopy correct for an RCAF Sabre? or would one stick with the Hobbycraft version? Is Academy's canopy type specific to an USAF F-86? or would other Nations have the same layout?
  22. Vertol Hkp 4B 1 Helicopter Division, Swedish Navy, 1986 If anyone reading this was at the 1986 Middle Wallop air show, as I was, I’m sure you will remember these Swedish helicopters as stars of the show and rare beasts indeed in the UK. It sometimes takes a while for all the elements to come together to built a model and for me it was the recent availability of the Swedish camo colours from Hataka that completed the set. I have had the ‘Flying Colours / Aerodecals’ sheet for a long long time, kept in the equally old Hobbycraft Vertol 107 kit box waiting to go. If you like masking, then this is the model for you. If you don’t, sheer perseverance will get you there in the end – or at least that’s how it was for me. I thought the rotor blade camo might be the easy bit, but having to do it all 6 times extended the timescale beyond what I wanted – you can only do so much masking at a time. The Hataka paints airbrushed beautifully and I would recommend them. Next time though I think I would spray the two greens and hand brush the brown and black to keep masking to a reasonable level.
  23. Hello everyone... This is fresh from the Lockheed Group Build. It is a 1/48 F-94B representing an plane operated by NACA the predecessor to NASA. It is based on a photo of an F-94B based at the Lewis Research center in Cleveland Ohio 1958. It is F-94B 51-5329 used by NACA to record and study sonic booms and jet noise over populated areas. Please feel free to ask questions, comment, or pass on your thoughts ? Dennis
  24. This is the old 1/48 Hobbycraft kit. A model that's at least 10 years old now.🙂 It’s pretty much an OOB build, although I did detail the cockpit a little, and I added some doo-dads to detail the landing gear and bays. I used a vac-canopy from Squadron, the dark gray is Humbrol, the Sky type -S is ModelMaster enamel. The stripes were done in MM acrylic flat-white and a custom-mixed dark gray with Humbrol. Cannons are hypo tubing inside brass tube. Decals are the AeroMaster “Sea Fury Pt. 1” 48-702 set. I had a lot of trouble with the canopy; I had a hard time fitting it, and after it was finally attached I saw a lot of crap inside the canopy and a nice big glue smear-inside too of course. Oh well, I was really tired of fighting this one at that point and let it go as it was. All in all, it turned out as another pretty fair “four footer”. At least I hope it looks good from 4 feet away. 😉 The model represents Lt. Peter "Hoagy" Carmichael's Sea Fury, of 802 Naval Air Squadron, flying from HMS Ocean. For years, he was credited with downing a MiG-15 on August 9, 1952. However, now it seems that the MiG was actually downed by his wingman, Sub Lt. Brian "Schmoo" Ellis. From the attached article: "In the four minutes of air combat, it was a MiG ‘kill’ and two or three damaged, probably beyond repair. It became a cause cĂ©lĂšbre in the Fleet Air Arm. Many Sea Fury pilots were disappointed for Schmoo Ellis, who kept his own counsel on the matter even when flight leader Carmichael was awarded the victory." So, with that said, here’s Lt. Peter Carmichael’s MiG Killer Sea Fury, at an unlikely stop in central Texas. Hey, thanks for taking time to look her over and please leave a comment! https://www.aerosociety.com/news/sea-fury-vs-mig-15-the-true-story/
  25. Hello this is my entry for this build. The Hobbycraft F-94A Starfire. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hobbycraft-hc1597-f-94a-jet-night-fighter--205576# I haven't decide which markings yet but am liking a few options. I will post sprue shots later, however i included a link to the Scale-mates listing for the kit. A few of the front runners are the 4th FIS. The 56th FIG, 61st FIS With these shark-mouthed aircraft. And last up is a Civilian aircraft operated by NACA the forerunner of NASA. Questions, comments, or jokes please ? Dennis
