  1. After seeing so many inspiring builds on this forum, I decided to re-visit my childhood admiration for the Harrier and got my hands on the Kinetic kit. I was quite impressed with the overall quality, and thanks to the information available here, I avoided some of the kit’s pitfalls. No aftermarket parts were used, but a modified Hasegawa F-14 pilot was added, and the Matra pods are from a Hobby Boss Hawk, since I didn’t feel like re-sculpting the kit parts (I can live with the uncovered openings). I usually build my aircraft kits gears up, but since the Harrier has such a fascinating silhouette with the outrigger gears, I wanted to depict it in a hovering state. This meant opening all the intake doors, and of course some surgery on the landing gear for the uncompressed state. I eyeballed the configuration from reference photos and added some hydraulic wires and stuff in the process. The oleo strut pistons on the outrigger gear were replaced with wire, since the kit parts have some arresting insets molded here. Other detail work was adding some bits in the cockpit and opening the APU exhaust on the back. Painted with Tamiya acrylics, with the panel centers airbrushed to a lighter shade and very light gouache panel line accentuation. Harrier enthusiasts here will hopefully forgive some glaring errors on the build. C&C very much welcome. And thanks for the Harrier energy.
  2. Hi everyone, welcome to my first WIP thread. I decided on this kit for two reasons: 1) I like the subject matter, the Harrier is a fond favourite of mine. The 1/72 GR3 was the second model I ever bought so it only seems fitting that it's the second attempt in my second modelling life. and 2) It was in the Airfix sale... As with my 'Post-Mortem' thread in Ready for Inspection, I'm hoping this will act as a reference point for other new starters who may be having similar problems with their builds. I'm also hoping to draw on the vast experience of other members who, I must say has been both useful and inspirational in my other build. Kit From what I've read, this is a particularly old kit. Raised panel lines and lots of flash to be trimmed. I'm going to practice some filling and sanding so the lack of recessed panels isn't too much of an issue for me. Build It's not going to be a quick one, so I'll be posting updates every week. It's going to be OOB with no aftermarket parts or anything too fancy. I'll be airbrushing with Humbrol enamels with a cheap-o Revell Starter Airbrush. Like I said, I'm going to use this opportunity to develop some filling and sanding skills for future builds with a real focus on getting a nice even and polished finish. I'll be finishing it with No. 1 Squadron markings and livery, although I am tempted to have another go at the lighter underside. We'll see... I think I might need a bit of luck with this one, so any hints, tips or suggestions before I get on with this would be very much appreciated. Update pictures at the end of the day Here I go...
  3. Hi all I was looking though my photos from my Iphone and come across these of the Jaguars at Cosford in June 2013. I took loads of photos of them as I was very happy to see them all over the place. Mad me feel old though. As I remember being at school with all these hammering over us. Now they are not being used its sad. But great to see the wrap around scheme which for me is "proper colours" Along with the black ones. Particularly the one with the saint on the tail. Ironic this was the first Airshow I attended with my parents with me in 20 years and the first one we went to together in 1992 had a black Jag with a saint on. Cheers Rob Stuff like this is always fun.
