  1. Also doing an old 1/72 Harrier GR5 from Airfix - same as the later GR7 kit, it has about 3 different nose options! First of the Harrier II 'Big Wing' versions, allowing a larger payload. Again, raised lines, basic kit, but its there in the stash and just makes the 1980's as it replaced the GR3's in 1989..... Got some modeldecal 100 decals with a choice of ,1 Sqn, 233 OCU, SAOEU and 3 (Fighter) Sqn - with RAFG in mind I think it will be 3 (F) Sqn as it convertedto GR5 in May 1989.... Oooops....
  2. Hi all, I finished this late last year but not had chance to photograph it yet. This model is a true Britmodeller team effort as various parts for the conversion were suppled by fellow members. Its probably not 100% accurate but close enough for me. The parts for the conversion were as follows: Resin nose & console custom cast by Sean Resin seat from somewhere (can remember!) 65% Lerex suppled by Saints Phil Additional pylons on outriggers scratch built from plasticard! Decals by Skymodels Thanks to Sean & Phil for the above parts, hope you like it!! Apologies for the poor photos :-( I realise now I should have painted the back of the tanks dark green!
  3. Hi chaps, I'm thinking about modelling dioramas (like this one) and also considering making improvements to flight simulation. It's possibly not the best forum to ask this but I know quite a few of the Harrier nuts on here are genuine forces pros, so here goes: How did routine Harrier servicing work? i.e. Does much take place in the hangar rather than on the pan - e.g. Where are tyre pressures checked? Is oil checked/replenished every sortie? By whom? Does the fuel bowser carry oil or is there a dedicated cart? Is water always topped up? What vehicle brings the water? Ditto hydraulic fluid & nitrogen Is there a specific order in which these things were done? Is there a technician walkaround that occurs before the pilot does his and are they very different? I seem to recall that there is a telephone connection on the wing (in the outrigger bay?) Under what circumstances is this used? Just hot refuelling? That's quite a few more questions than I intended but anything that gives a broad understanding of how this all works would be really welcome. Cheers, Kirk
  4. This one has been around for a wee while now (I finished it over a year ago!!), but is only now making an appearance in RFI. A very simple conversion of the new tool Airfix 1/72 Harrier GR7/GR9 kit, the most complicated bit of which is the masking for the paint scheme! The actual conversion work is simplicity itself, involving nothing more than a little cutting, some sanding and a tiny wee bit of plsticard. First up, cut off the kit nose and then add the Quickboost resin nose. Once the glue is cured, sand to match the kit contours and then sand off the rivets at the rear fuselage and the strengthening strip also. There is a slight difference in shape to the upper RWR sensor which is easily replicated from plasticard cut to shape and glued in place. Then you need to sand off the right hand MFD on the kit instrument panel and add a small square of plasticard with a circular hole in its place, et viola! Decals came from Modeldecal 100 for both the stencils and unit markings, but I suffered from a wee bit of silvering here and there as well as being slightly out of register in a couple of places. Kit seat was replaced with a resin example from the extensive extras stash and was courtesy of Airwaves circa 1994. This is a vast improvement on the kit seat and really should be re-released. Right, enough spiel, here's some pics, I toned down the panel lines with some milliput, which makes a huge improvement to this kit. I also added a few wee aerials, the fuel vent and the retractable step too. I hope this has whetted your appetite for some green scheme Harriers. I always thought these were the best looking ones, especially ZG531 with its big 4 Sdqn tail, Mark.
