  1. TANKER E61 TB-17G N3702G in 1:48 (Revell 85-5600) Photo Credit: Steve Williams via Airliners.net It's been a long time coming and I'm way overdue at my bench but this past Christmas Santa left a Revell 1:48 B-17G Flying Fortress under the tree for me. I'm not much for building OOB so started looking for an interesting subject to build. I will be finishing the kit in litho for a NMF and want to do some scratch-building as well. Thus I started looking for a B-17 converted for air-attack or aerial fire-fighting. After a few days of poking around the web and collecting photo references I settled on former USAAF s/n 43-38635 Boeing B-17G-90-BO (TB-17G) N3702G Tanker E61. I plan on fabricating the replacement tail cone where the Cheyenne turret had been installed, rework the interior and scratch-build the borate tank(s). I'm not going overboard on the interior as the point of this exercise is to build the tail, tanks and finish it all in metal -- rivets and all. My work schedule often gets in the way so I will do my best to update this project as much as possible. Thanks for stopping by. May the building begin... Cheers! PR
  2. It's been ages since I've posted any work here, but having a big bit of time off due to having a little girl 2+ years ago... I'm finally getting back into it, and having time off due to COVID19 is also helping.. HK Models 1/32nd B-17G coverted by myself into a fire bomber. Here is where it's at now... I did start this years ago, but did little to it, cockpit etc... but recently brought it back up to speed by blanking off the turrets and modifications needed to make it into the aircraft I want to finish it as. First coat of primer last night over the modified areas is bringing up some minor defects in the milliput, but that'll be easily sorted. Big old girl... had to photo her on my rug for the time being... but when done i'll take it somewhere (work maybe) and find a bigger space..
  3. Hi all, So after my last Revell flying boat adventure, going to take the plunge with this one which I think is a rebox of a Heller kit. Thanks for looking and good luck with your builds. Cheers, Dermot
  4. Hello all.. As some people know I set up the IPMS Water Bomber SIG this year, which means I actually have to finish more models...I have a CL-215 in for paint, a Tracker in primer, a C-130 nearing primer, a Mach2 Savage that is causing me no-end of grief... so why not get started on a Combat Models vacform Martin Mars! Tom Probert raised his eyes when he saw it... so it's going to be quite fun to say the least. I do have a few vacs on the go but nothing finished due to losing interest in them (due to their subjects) so I've boxed them back up ready for another day.... this however I do have lots of interest in! Moulding is quite poor in a few areas on the mating edges, there are lumps from a damaged mould I guess, so they are going to need rebuilding.. if I was to sand them away the model won't fit together properly, so I'm trying to think of a way around it - along with very thin plastic, it's certainly going to test my lack of skills and patience. Just one photo for now - I've got a tonne of free plasticard off my dad so will start work on the bulkheads very soon! 5. Hi guys, I've been really busy recently, work, moving house, trying to get to most shows on weekends etc, it's been non-stop. Loads going on in the background, I have a few kits that are nearing completion (see RFI soon) but decided to keep them off BM due to time reasons but I'm putting this up as it's a really unusual-unseen built kit.., I've also just set up a new SIG with the IPMS called 'Scale Water Bombers', basically, anything that's dropped water or retardant etc over the years from Ford Trimotors to DC-10's... one aircraft that I've always been fond of is the AJ-1 Savage and two were used for aerial firefighting so I'm going to try and replicate that using the lovely Mach2 kit. Some photos - Lovely patina seen on the box, I'm guessing from having a nice long holiday up in a loft Mach 2 AJ-2 Savage 1/72nd by Totallyrad.co.uk, on Flickr Bang up-to-date 3D CAD style instructions Mach 2 AJ-2 Savage 1/72nd by Totallyrad.co.uk, on Flickr Tamiya-like mouldings. Mach 2 AJ-2 Savage 1/72nd by Totallyrad.co.uk, on Flickr Mach 2 AJ-2 Savage 1/72nd by Totallyrad.co.uk, on Flickr Here's what it is going to hopefully look like. Seriously though, it's not that bad and it can be worked but that's the whole fun of modelling... isn't it. Thanks for looking in..see you on the next update.
