  1. Hallo, gents, I am trying to finish an Eduard 190D-11 (quite a feat, the models looks as if it would detonate itself at any moment) and I was struck by the following puzzle. It is well known that the simplified bulged canopy hood in the 190Ds and Fs lacked the tensors for the aerial wire, that in the A models kept the wire taut even when moving the hood backwards. Therefore, the wire slackened when the canopy was opened. Aerial wires are universally very hard to catch in the pictures of the era. My question is: how much did the wire actually slackened? the movement of the canopy hood was not great, perhaps less than a meter, maybe around 80 cm. Was that enough to make the wire virtually fall straight to the spine, almost vertically at the fin? Or it did slacken hanging in the air somewhere in between? The famous D-13 "Yellow 10" seems to have the wire virtually fall vertically when the hood is opened, even below the spine, but the spread distance does not make sense. But then in some pictures the hood is closed and the wire is taut! Any thoughts? FErnando, taking cover at Buenos Aires.

  3. Hi, Dora from Hasegawa with few corrections. Fast to build, easy kit. Needs a little bit of fitting but nothing hard to deal with. Side inscription means: "Sell my clothes I'm going to heaven!". List of modifications: - pilot seat - added seatbelts and Yahu IP - modified gunsight - Quickboost exhausts - Eduard Bronze legs from Revell F-8 - gun barrels / pitot tube / bottom antenna from syringe needles - pilot motto - shortened tail wheel - wings crosses from Montex Masks WIP: https://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=74576
  4. Hello All, While you lot in the Northern Hemisphere rug up and spend those long hours of darkness undertaking quality time at the bench, we in Southern climes sweat it out! Tamiya's 1/72 scale offering - My interpretation of the Kagero folio of Brown 18. Gunze and Tamiya Acrylics, Alclad II and some Games workshop paints and finished off with some oils.   5. After seeing how nice the 1/48 Hobbyboss FW-190D-9 kit was, I picked up the D-11 kit planning on a parallel build. While it is nice, it has some accuracy issues. It basically is a D-9 kit with a new cowl and supercharger intake, and replicates a mistake on the D-9 kit in that it has a single cartridge ejection chute between the wheel wells (the D-9 should have 2, and the D-11 should have none) Also, the D-11 has the outboard MK-108 cannons miss located, no upper or lower breech covers or ejection chutes, and incorrect panel lines. The cowl cover is also bulged where it should be nearly straight and the motor mount subtle bulge is missing. Time to play ... here's the un modified D-11 wings - note how far outboard the MK-108's are compared to the drawing here's the modified wings, rescribed, with a fairing made from sprue (D-9 wings on top for comparison) (cartridge chute filled on the D-11, and a second one added on the D-9) After priming, with the guns relocated Upper breech covers made from .040 plasticard and panel lines rescribed as nesc. (also note that I've removed the cartridge chutes from in the wheel well) The gun cowl for the fuselage (Eduard's on the left, unmodified D-11 below, and D-9 above) You can see how "bulgy" the cowl is originally Cowl was backed with Millput and filed/sanded to shape and rescribed, the primed The cowl flaps were also separated with a razor saw, and the one flap in front of the supercharger closed For the D-9, the lower, aft portion of the wings is unpainted, so I've done a bit of "stressed skin" and riveted it. IMHO, large expanses of smooth aluminum just don't look right Even with this, it looks like a much simpler build than the Eduard's kit, and accurate in (most) outlines. Hope you like, so far, Colin
  6. Gosh I had trouble figuring out what to build for this GB, it's safe to say I have changed my mind many times, right up to the stage where I had almost finished this starting thread. I had been already to build an Hs-129B-3 (75mm version) and full AM bits and pieces including vector resin engines! But I was doing some final research as I was writing up the thread when everything changed. For some reason I was never quite sure if the Fw-190D’s were used against the Soviets and to what level and thought it would be a bit hard on the research side…..but I was wrong (there were actually even some of the big wing Ta-152H’s were used as well!). So with this new info at hand I can happily go back to what I had really wanted to build, a Dora! So the base will be Tamiya’s lovely Fw-190 D9, excluding the Su-7, this will be my third Tamiya fighter in a row, I love these models. I normally like to throw lots of AM stuff at my builds but this time I’ll only use just one….. …and what an AM kit it is! Full engine, cockpit and gun bay detail kit…that should keep me busy for a while. The for the scheme I’ll probably do “White 12” from JG301 using the Cutting Edge decal sheet........ ....................though I am very tempted to build one flown by one of the following Russian front aces; Oberleutnant Oskar Romm IV/JG3 – 92 kills Oberleutnant Gerhard Michalski Geschwaderkommodore JG4 – 14 kills (73 in total) Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel Geschwaderkommodore SG2 (Legendary Ju87 pilot) - 9 kills Major Gerhard Barkhorn Geschwaderkommodore JG6 – 301 kills

  8. Hi, everybody! This is my next model. There was no any JV44 symbol on right board on genuine plane, it is just my mistake. "I don't trust anything without a Propeller at least." - pilot Lt.Heinz Sachsenberg in reply to being asked why he didn't fly jet aircraft.
