Good afternoon everyone. It's been a long time coming but I felt I had to get this done as it was such a fun build. A quintessential 60s jet in 80s clothes. "Are 'friends' electric?" in this case my friends the answer is definitely yes! Please bare with me while I pass a bunch of photos past your eyes. I hope you approve of what I did to the heaps of plastic that I found in my box. The English Electric Lightning. 1/48 by Airfix There you are, a lovely bird, not to everyone's liking but I find her mesmerising. I hope you liked the RFI It was a pleasure to have you all along for the WIP. I'm currently building the Mahoosive Tamiya Lancaster 1/48. If you would like to tag along you can grab on here. Looking forward to more plastic in 2018. Happy Modelling guys. Johnny Newman.

Hi I was looking out for an interesting Lightning scheme to model and came across this part white Lightning trials aircraft on You Tube. I think I have traced a picture of the same aircraft in "The History of Air of Air Refuelling' by Richard Tanner but its not fully clear. It is , again , shown refuelling from a Valiant. The aircraft is not fully white - just the forward fuselage to behind the rear wing root and part of the wing. It seems to have a grey spine. Can anyone shed any light on it ? Are there any other photos of it available ? Not having much luck!

HI mates, I stumbled across this photo on an Internet site, which is quite dramatic. Typically, the web page gave no other information about it, other than "UK 1962." Anyone here have some more details? I hope the pilot survived, as it looks to be a low-level ejection. The chute is deploying, though. The gear is down, so I'm guessing it was either right after take-off, or right before landing. Cheers, Bill

Has anyone ever produced decals for the early batch of prototype Lightnings. I'm specifically interested in T.4 XL628 with the light blue nose/flash and Lightning script & XG329. I am aware of the Whirlykits resin kit which does have decals for XL628, but that's now very hard to find & I'm not keen on working with resin. Just wondering. Martin

Hi All, Third post for tonight I present to you a mirror finish English Electric Lightning belonging to the Royal Saudi Airforce. This was a Eduard Limited Edition Boxing of the Airfix kit, which is an absolutely superb kit with some lovely resin and photoetch in there as well. To get the finish I polished the bare plastic of the kit down to 12,000 grit with micromesh until the plastic itself was extremely glossy. I then primed the bare plastic with Tamiya rattle can gloss black and shot Alclad polished aluminium over the black base coat. The intake ring is sprayed with Alclad Chrome. Unfortunately the clear of the decals showed up on the finish, but I was so happy with the mirror like finish I didn't let this bother me too much. I should have removed the carrier film from around the decals. I also could not do a panel line wash on the finish, as it would just bead up on the surface. All comments welcome. Cheers, Arthur.
