  1. Two kits were looking at me from the stash for a while, one was the Buccaneer and the other an F-4G. The Bucc finally got built, so the Weasel was left. I kept putting it off as I wanted a Euro One scheme Spangdahlem Weasel and the colours are tricky. I have done a Euro One A-10 before but even then I wasn’t sure about the colours. To sort this I thought I would invest in a Hataka set of paints and try them on the Phantom. So the starting point - an old ERTL 1/48 kit. Quite like the Hill scheme too but it’s going to be Euro One Couldn’t resist the instructions picture I have a few bits to go into this build. The paints, resin seats, aftermarket decals, a cockpit etch set and some bits of resin. I have a full resin cockpit, but I got that after the etch set. So it’s going to be etch enhanced kit pit. The kit is getting on but has nice recessed panel lines. It started me thinking about another Phantom in the stash Taking a closer look they have quite a bit in common…. Er, much the same kit? Well very close anyway. One extra sprue for the Weasel. Actually that’s not quite true. The ERTL kit has way more cockpit instrument panel detail, so the ESCI kit seems more basic. You get an idea in the shot of the tubs The grey Easel instrument panels have noticeable detail on them. The ESCI ones have none. The crea part is a resin cockpit rear panel I have a few of. Nowhere near the full resin detail, but I have etch. Coloured Eduard etch at that So cleaned up panels, new resin backs, etch bits & bobs. Should look ok. Then spotted an etch F-4E/F set. So a double build? I had always intended the gunslinger to be a Luftwaffe one. In Norm 72 splinter camo to go with my RF-4 So last question for now. My recent builds have tended to have lights & motors. No motors on a Phantom, but working lights? Was thinking wing tips, nose taxi light, tail anti collision flashing light, and back of tail light. Worth the effort? Anyway looking forward to hearing your views. By the way I think the resin pit will go in an FGR2 that is also in the stash. I am a serial Phantom offender. I already have 6 in 1/48
  2. This will easily be the biggest vacform I've ever attempted, and it's daunting if I'm honest. Picture of the real one below, I'll post pictures of the kit later with something to scale it against Edit Thanks to the diligence of a fellow BM member @Shorty84aka Markus, I discovered the BV238 needs significant alterations to end up anything like the original aircraft so an alternative was required. I've chosen to build the 1/72 Valkyrie instead, I hope you like it. Cheers Pat
  3. Start of a old AMT kit ,dod a bit of the office [under 25%] Thats it so far. Wellzy
  4. Hi all, Does anybody have any experience with this old kit? Has it been re-packaged under another brand, perhaps more recently? I picked it up for about £8 on ebay a couple of months ago, and the detailing is quite poor so I'm looking into buying some aftermarket improvements for it. Thanks in advance
  5. So, 1st share.... I started this in about 2003 at a guess and its been in a box since then! Was rather dusty and needed a gentle clean (only partially done so far). All brush painted (I primed the shell with spray and trying to decide how to best finish it....) From memory although detailed it didn't all fit together and needed lots of little tweaks (it was no tamiya kit!)...
  6. These pieces are not identified specifically, but a glance through the Osprey Elite Book (No. 16) 'NATO Armies Today' makes it clear that this was the source from which the figures were designed. The figures would appear to be as follows: British (illustrated in Elite No. 14 and No. 1) British infantry, one with rifle under arm, the second firing in a standing pose. The last two are British Parachute Regiment. One is running, holding his helmet and with rifle at the hip. The fourth man wears a 1974 flak jacket and is kneeling. French French Infantryman (with distinctive 5.56mm FAMAS assault rifle), a sniper armed with an FRF-1 rifle being held across the body, and a soldier armed with a MAT 49 sub machine gun under his left arm. The last two may be Foreign Legion, and the last figure is more suitable for the period up to the 1970s, earlier than the rest. France was not part of the NATO military command by this era they are not technically NATO troops at all
  7. Today is a 'good day'. A couple of months ago, my six-year-old started becoming very interested (then obsessed) with the whole Star Wars genre. This interest coincided with a Sci Fi 'Campaign' or 'Group-build' over on www.modelersallaince.com where I spend quite a lot of my time when I'm not hanging-around Britmodeller. . Long story short, I took advantage of Bens interest and bought this old STAP & Battle Droid kit to enter in to the campaign and to see if he'd like to have a go with Dad at building a kit. He did most of the major assembly with the minimum amount of help form me, whilst I was allowed to do the painting. We finished at 0700 this morning (only just) in-time for the last day of school and this mornings' 'Show & Tell'. Yes, today is definitely a good day. Kit - AMT/Ertl 1:6 STAP & Battle Droid Paint - All Tamiya acrylics. Decals - None Extras - 'pins' (wrist joints), patience and lots of strong coffee. As ever thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment. Because I enjoyed this 'change-of-pace' so much I spent a lot of time over the last week or so wandering around eBay looking for more Sci Fi builds to spend my money & time on. As it's turned-out, on a purely 'modelling level' this is not one of my best, however as a fantastic experience of building a kit with my wee son, it's absolutely bl**dy marvelous. AFN Ben & Ian.
  8. This is the subject of my build , P40E 41-35934, ex-RAF ET580 being one of two the Eighth had both with the VIII Bomb Command HQ Flight, This aircraft crashed on the 9th Oct 1943 killing the pilot Major Glenn E Hagenbuch. The kit AM Tech (ex ERTL) My Reference Cheers Les
  9. Kit manufacture: AMT/ERTL Scale: 1/48 Type: A20G Havoc Extras used: Quickboost engine and wheels, Aeromaster decals Paints used: Tamiya and Vallejo An old kit, very basic. Enjoyed making it though. Would certainly build another. Completed this a while ago but my camera was being repaired so only just got round to taking pics so may have a bit of dust on it. Still need to work on my photos but were getting there.

  11. This is my oldest model. Its the original issue Ecto-1a from AMT. I bought this in about 1992 from Comet Miniatures i think. Its been sitting in a box in the loft for the last few years and it was covered in dust and dirt. I got it downd and cleaned it up yesterday. I must say im impressed with my modelling skills from the 90s! Theres a few small things like the ariel and tail lights missing. I was tempted to redo some of it , but i think i will leave it as a kind of time capsule. I may get the reissue and build it to go along side. It will be interesting to see if my skills have progressed at all over the last 19 years! See i can actually keep something without selling it!!!
