So I lost a part for the Heinkel 177 and ice been looking for like a day now with no look, so I decided to keep my sanity by starting another kit and trying not to lose anything. So I picked an ancient kit far older than myself (by about 3 decades!) of one of my favourite German aircraft, the early variants of the Do 17. I picked up this Airfix kit from a sales group on Facebook a while ago, and it's been sitting in the stash tempting me since. I may buy an RS Models version after this. On with the build! The age shows in the cockpit, the instructions are very unclear and detail is basic to say the least. I considered not even bothering with anything beyond the seats, but I decided to put it all in. This part of the kit went together with no trouble at all... I don't think anything else will. Lots of filler and sanding needed here, I still need to do some more. The part where it connects to the fuselage has been scraped down so it fits better, filler will be needed anyway so it's not an issue. Like a plank I accidentally put the fins on the wrong way up at first, they actually fit surprisingly well like that. Having corrected it, the gap between the fins and tailplane is taken care of by using enough glue that the plastic gunge fills it. This worked well. More sanding and filler needed

My latest completion is Airfix's new tool Dornier 17. OOB, Stynylrez primer, Vallejo Model Air, W&N Matt varnish. Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr For some reason this was a bit of a 'mojo dampener' for me but it's a nice kit of a tricky subject, especially the pilot's frame, rear gunner's seat and cowlings. Usual protracted WiP here.

I am about to start the Airfix Dornier 17, but have an old Frog one to make too. One Luftwaffe scheme is enough, but I fancied a Finnish one with the white overpaint. However, my references differ as to their basic scheme. Either they retained the Luftwaffe 70/71 splinter, or they were repainted into the Finnish olive green and black. I don't have a lot of photos of them without the white, but they would seem to be in a different pattern to the Luftwaffe which would suggest repainting. Views with the white has such contrast that it is difficult to make out anything about the underlying scheme. Can anyone either confirm that they retained the original colours before the white was added, or show me what the pattern was in the revised colours?
